I have recently finished my coursework at the University of Iowa and am about to enter into the internship-phase of my music therapy degree/certification. Currently I waitress for a living- but that's alright with me because it is a great way to meet new people! Soon my partner (Brady) and I will be relocating from Iowa, where we have lived all our lives, to San Diego California

When traveling it's always the local people know the best ways to experience their communities and local landmarks, plus meeting new people is always fun! I love learning tips for traveling, ideas for less-known places to visit, and I love hearing about crazy life experiences, eating new food, and learning about new cultures. Plus the people on couchsurfing always seem to be awesome.

Intereses

I love the outdoors and nature and in my free time (in our warm seasons) you are likely to find me gardening, hiking, road-biking, kayaking, camping, and backpacking.
When it isn't nice out, I love watching movies, , knitting, drawing, and folding origami
My partner and I are both musicians (mainly piano, guitar, sax, oboe, flute) and love everything about playing, listening, and experiencing music.

Movies/TV- When it is cold in Iowa we watch a lot of movies...everything from the artistic Tarantino, Kurosawa, or Wes Anderson to the new Marvel movies and Star Wars. Some of our top watched movies are the Seven Samurai, Kill Bill, the Avengers movie's, the original Star Wars trilogy, the Matrix movies, and the Godfather movies. We both really like some of the new online series that have come out recently like Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, and The Handmaids Tale

Music is so much of my life it is hard not to ramble on. Aside from playing and writing music, both Brady and I listen to a lot of rock/funk/jazz/hip-hop and any way to fuse any of those together. Some different and more obscure bands we listen to include Haitus Kaiyote which calls itself "Multi-Dimensional, Polyrhythmic Gangster Shit" and a group called That Handsome Devil. We also listen to more mainstream stuff like Leon Bridges, Kendrick Lamar, and The Gorillaz to name a few, as well as classic stuff like Parliament (And other mo-town/classic funk), The Talking Heads, Pink Floyd, and Jimi Hendrix. We love traveling to see live music shows and together we have seen Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, Beck, and David Byrne to name just a few.

As we have both just been in our undergrad, reading for leisure went by the wayside. When we do read we like to read books that have to do with music- for example The Way Music Works by David Byrne or Musicophilia by Oliver Sacks. When he has time to read Brady likes dystopic novels like 1984 and A Clockwork Orange, while I like to read historical fiction such as The Kite Runner and All The Light You Cannot See

I would love to learn more about cultures (non-western music especially), food, and language. I would love to learn more skills for travel such as advanced backpacking tips and I am always looking for a good location for shoestring traveling (not just accommodations, but cost overall). Lastly I will be looking to surf for a little while in SD before we settle down in a place of our own out there- this is so that we can learn more about the neighborhoods, restaurants, and culture before we pick a neighborhood to settle into.

Brady and I have a lot of musical knowledge. Whether you are looking for new stuff to listen to or want to learn the basics (or advance further) we have both spent our young lives (and too much money) studying and experiencing these things extensively.

I have spent a good amount of time working behind the bar, so I can be your personal cocktail artist if you are into that.
