ABOUT ME

Hi, I am Anneliese, a 25 year old bartender in the heart of Antwerp, the diamond city of Belgium. I play saxophone and piano and I love singing and whistling the whole day through. I going on my first solo travel from March until May so I bought this pocket size saxophone called xaphoon and I am hoping to get the hang of it before I leave.

Next to making music, I work at a typical Antwerp cozy brown bar. I used to be a music teacher in a music academy for 3 years but I was terrible at all the paperwork (which was more work than teaching itself unfortunately), so I started working at a bar. Next to that, I was very interested in our amazing beer culture and decided to become a beer sommelier. So, I like tasting a couple of beers and explore other beer cultures.

At last, I am quite creative, I paint, draw, jam, make stuff. I also finished a course as a make up artist. I don’t wear it myself a lot, but I do like dressing up in certain decennia from the 20s to 80s.
I laugh a lot, I have a good sense of humor (which I learned from working behind the bar), I am very interested in other people’s stories and like to learn a lot about history, music, geography,...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am currently living at my parent's house because of a big trip I am planning in the future. Will be hosting back again from Oct 2018.

It is my first time on couchsurfing. I travelled a lot in Europe and was very fond of hostelling but I would like to become more in touch with the locals.

Music, Movies, and Books

I started appreciating ‘music before my time’ when I was 14. I was a huge fan of Queen, The Rolling Stones, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Beatles, etc.

Now I listen to all kinds of music. I love Blues, Jazz, Soul and Motown. I can’t hold my tears when I hear real Gospel music and I get loose on good 70s and 80s music. I don’t follow the music from this time anymore so I am sorry if I can’t please you with talking about Avicii or Nicki Minaj. Not my cup of tea.

I am not much of a reader but I recently started Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis. I love it.

I adore all movies with Robin Williams, Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington.
I usually pick out movies based on true events.
And yes, I follow Game of Thrones.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I bought a Lenco turntable a couple a months ago and I enjoy spending time at vinyl record stores and playing some good old music. I will be looking for record stores in your neighbourhood and buy as many as I can carry back home.

I went to the USA in September 2016 and visited a few national parks in Arizona, Nevada, California and Utah. It was breathtaking. That is why I am doing a second trip to the USA.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach how to play the saxophone and the piano.
I can talk about beer, about lp records, about make up, music,...
I can tell you stories about all the crazy stuff I dealt with at work.
I make my own liquor. I can teach you how to make good liquor. ;-)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I collect fridge magnets. I can always bring one from my home town ;-).
I can cook and do dishes!
I make amazingly good Bloody Mary's.
