ABOUT ME
Hey! I'm happy that you - stumbling through this vast database of faces, places and adventure stories - found your way onto my profile page! Welcome! So let me introduce myself: I'm Anne from Hamburg, Germany. I've been living in this lukewarm northern city for nearly ten years now. In the first place I came here for studying and arrived with the wide open eyes that anyone grown up in the countryside casts on a big city. My first impressions were irritating and inspiring at the same time: confusingly broad options in cultural life, anonymity, too much rain and wind even for somebody grown up only 250 km further south, surreal urban/industrial/harbour panoramas, lovely clubs and concerts, amazing people that might seem uninterested first but w i l l befriend you if you stay persistent. Now I can say that I'm »at home« here in Hamburg and will be happy to show you around if you happen to pass by!! You will find more information about my interests under »Interests«.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I only just started using CS, so I think I still have to try out and see how it works... so far I love the idea of easily finding a friendly place to come to wherever you go... it's a really great thought, like zooming into the »real life« of any place whenever you want. If a platform like this wouldn't already exist someone would surely have to invent it to make people all over the world move closer together not just virtually but also in reality. I also like a lot the idea of receiving people from all over the world at my home as it might fulfill my ever-growing curiosity of new cultures without actually moving myself.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I surfed couches in Italy and met and hosted some really kind travellers and international students in Hamburg through Couchsurfing.
As for travelling in general, Italy and England are two of my favourite destinations, both countries in which I also have lived for some time.
Interests
I love spending time with people of a different mother tongue, I love the way that learning languages helps me understand my own language, I love getting to know the etymology of everyday words. I love popular culture and music, in general I would prefer if the gap between 'serious' and 'popular' culture would be seen as less dividing. Luckily enough for me, my field of studies and work and my main interests and passions are more or less the same. I love drawing and painting, I'm just finishing my studies in illustration design and you are likely to find me in my studio at a local artist's house at odd hours of the day (and night), working or wasting time. So that means that I might work as an illustrator one day, but I also might be doing something completely different. Oh, I forgot to say that I adore being lazy, generally I do everything in quite a slow way and enjoy doing one thing at a time. Anyway, surprisingly I also have a university degree in Art History and Italian. I'm very fond of every kind of expression, may it be verbal or non-verbal. I love icecream, waking up in a tent and knowing that summer has just started, discovering a new favourite song and listening to it over and over again, I love long e-mails, letters, postcards and maps.
