About Me

Instagram: @annieTheto

I'm an actress/filmmaker from Los Angeles. Last year I taught English in South Korea and this year I'm in Spain!

In terms of traveling, I'm a very low-key, chill type of traveler. I normally don't have my days planned out because I'd rather stay flexible.

I'm learning Spanish, I speak a little French, I'm fluent in Cantonese, and, obviously, English.

I love animals, drinking beer and wine, and museums. I'm mostly a vegetarian--it's more about moderation in the consumption of meat and dairy for environmental effects.

I don't smoke cigarettes and would prefer to stay somewhere without a cloud of cigarette smoke, too :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I used Couchsurfing a couple years ago when I went on a road trip with my ex-boyfriend and had a great experience.

I forget that Couchsurfing is a great way to meet people. It's a nice way to save money, too, but mainly for meeting locals :)

Interests

Animals, filmmaking, movies, reading, traveling, COFFEE, hiking, board games, reading...

Music, Movies, and Books

Odd to think Harry Potter first came to mind but, there you have it! I also recently finished reading Amy Poehler's "Yes, Please" and I love it. Smidge funnier and more insightful than Tina Fey's "Bossypants" and Mindy Kaling's long ass title of a memoir.

I like all kinds of music, especially the ones I can dance or sing (horribly).

My favorite kinds of movies are psychological thrillers, non-misogynistic comedies, and apocalyptic actions (world disasters and/or monsters).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

("Amazing" gets kind of overused.)

I've encountered some beautiful moments, if that can fall under this question. At the top of my list is this experience: Two summers ago I had made plans to go camping in Mammoth Lakes, CA with my friend and my dog, Snickers, a 12lb Yorkie. My friend got nervous about sleeping in a tent outside and I was upset at having my trip spoiled, especially after booking the campsites, so I said, fuck it--I'm going anyway with my dog.

So we packed up and started heading on the five-hour car ride. I don't like to use GPS all the time so after a brief glimpse at the directions to look for a specific highway number, I turned it off.

There's a reason why I use GPS.

Three hours into driving I realize I should have turned onto the highway awhile ago. I turn it back on and all of a sudden the GPS says I've got six hours of driving ahead of me. SAY. WHAT.

Totally missed a HUGE interchange and the GPS tells me it's more time-efficient to drive up to Stockton and drive through Yosemite than it is to go back the way I came. All I can do is laugh/cry to my dog who's on the longest car ride of his life.

So we cut through Yosemite and we make multiple stops to enjoy the view and the forest. It's a gorgeous park!!! A detour I have NEVER, EVER minded! We arrive in Mammoth around sunset--luckily there's enough light for me to pitch a tent and make some dinner.

Despite the unexpected long start, we go on to have a beautiful week hiking (as much as his little paws could do and then I would have to carry him) and even kayaking at one point. Sorry, this was a huge setup to the actual "amazing thing" I wanted to mention.

One dusk as I walking Snickers around the campgrounds, we spot a deer. It was less than 50 feet away from us, grazing around an empty campsite. Knowing how Snickers can be with animals, I pick him up and make sure he's facing the other way and can't see the deer at all. With lots of cooing, small stepping, and low-hummed chatter, I'm able to get close to the deer. He's a little tense but he allows my reaching arm to touch him. Snickers is struggling in my arms to try to see what's going on while of a sudden I'm petting this deer. I pet this guy for a couple minutes before Snickers starts to really move around in my arms and I have to back away and leave. What a moment!!!

Teach, Learn, Share

Treat your career like a bad boyfriend (paraphrased from Amy Poehler). Your career won't take care of you when you're sick, will never marry you, will openly flirt with other people while you are around. You will never climb Career Mountain and get to the top and shout "I made it!"--It doesn't matter how much success you have, you are always left wanting more. Ambivalence helps "tame the beast." It will chase you if you act like other things (passion, friendship, family, longevity) are more important to you. If your career is a bad boyfriend, it is healthy to remember you can always leave and go sleep with somebody else.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Laughter? Stories? I don't have a good memory so my story-telling can be for shit...but that doesn't mean we can't have a good time nonetheless.
