About Me

Hi! My name is Anniek, I'm 25 years old, and I am a firm believer that breakfast is the best meal of the day. I am currently traveling Australia with a friend, and we are looking to meet new people and hear new stories.

Both my friend and I have lived in the States before, so we often get mistaken for Americans. But we're 100% Dutch, I swear. And it ain't much if it ain't Dutch! ;-)

We are starting our road trip down the East coast on the 14th of October, so if you are on the East coast and would like to host two friendly and happy Dutchies, let me know! We clean up after ourselves and will even offer to do the dishes while you sit back and have a beer. Hopefully we will meet a lot of couchsurfing members to make our trip even more special!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm currently traveling Australia with a close friend, we're going to be making our way down the East coast by car and both want to meet new people. CS is exactly the kind of place that allows us to do that!

I'm goofy, happy and easy going, so don't worry about not having interesting conversations or awkward silences. I love trying new things, but I'm not scared to tell you if I don't like it. I have seen a lot of movies and series, so maybe we can connect over that as well (I'm pretty good with quoting stuff from movies as well).

Overall, we just can't wait to exchange our culture with you! 😁

Interests

It might seem like I have a lot of general interest, but I promise I'm a really fun person. I love to talk (I get that from my mom) and I can have both very deep and meaningful conversations (love those) or light and funny ones.

I love watching and rewatching movies and series (I like to know the ending, is that weird?) and can absolutely sit on a couch all day watching Netflix if the weather is bad. So recommendations are always welcome!

I'm an avid reader, and I love a lot of different genres. I love psychological thrillers, mysteries, chicklits and fantasy books (although I could for the life of me not get through the Game of Thrones books).

During summer time I love going to festivals with friends, usually the ones where you have a relaxed vibe and can just hang out with wine or gin tonics (my go to drink for sure).

I have a degree in Journalism, but I would probably study psychology if I could do it again. I love figuring people out, listening to problems and giving advice. I'm definitely a people's person.

And last but not least, here are some fun (and useless) facts about me:

• I have a fear of sharks and the open ocean. Even sharks in movies creep me out. I'm hoping to overcome that fear during my trip.
• I can wiggly my ears and raise one eyebrow.
• I'm definitely part of the grammar police. Sorry, I know it can be annoying.
• I love bananas, they are probably one of my favorite foods.
• Barack Obama follows me on Twitter. I can show you if you decide to host me.

Music, Movies, and Books

Psychological thrillers, romantic comedies, pop music and oldies but goldies (the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Phantom of the Opera, the list goes on and on!)!

I'm a fast and avid reader, so my motto is 'a book a day keeps the doctor away'.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived in the US for a year when I was 17 and am currently stepping outside of my comfort zone again by backpacking on the other side of the world!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you Dutch and I can share a ton of fun and utterly useless facts (camels have three eyelids to shield their eyes from the sand. Bet you didn't know that.). I would love to learn more about the Australian culture, the local food and maybe you can share some fun facts about yourself and your city/town as well.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Fun and positivity, random facts that are in no way helpful in life but are still fun to know, fun stories from places I've been and people I've met, a listening ear (I'm that friend in a group), good wine and not a lot of mess (I clean up after myself and I'll even do dishes).
