About Me

I'm happiest when I'm busy with the people, places, and events I love. I can easily pass the day cycling and picnicking, having a good conversation over some tea, or volunteering at a great event. A perfect night for me includes board games, food, friends, and lots of laughing, though I also delight in dancing and enjoy getting a little messy on occasion.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

When in Winnipeg, I'm happy to show visitors my local haunts. I love what Winnipeg has to offer, from its vibrant arts scene and delicious family restaurants to its varied architecture and nearby nature.

While away, I love to meet up with Couchsurfers as a way to get to know a city, even if I don`t need a bed in which to sleep. From Toronto to Switzerland, CS has been a great way to meet new friends and get to know the heart of a city. I really appreciate the opportunity to surf, but I also think CS events and individual meet-ups are fantastic.

So far, I've surfed couches in Vancouver, Thailand, Berlin, Switzerland, and Manila. It`s been great! I`ve also attended events in Toronto, Vancouver, and Switzerland, as well as organized events myself when I`m home in Winnipeg.

Interests

I love local ____. Food, music, development, art, events - the list goes on. I love to talk about education, particularly more experiential forms of education, human psychology and emotions, different ways of living -- anything, really. I love to learn!

Off and on, I`m into arts and crafts, such as watercolours and knitting, photography, reading, volunteering, teaching, blogging, swing dancing, and lots more.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love folk and indie music, especially mixed with spoken word. Some artists I enjoy are The Head and the Heart (Seattle), Craig Cardiff (Ottawa), Shane Koyczan (BC), and Brock Tyler (Manitoba). Since I swing dance, I also love jazz standards, etc.

I enjoy reading, especially while traveling, and I`m really into movies at the moment. My tastes are wide-ranging, though. Some favourite books include Ender's Game and The Stone and the Flute, and some favourite movies include Pan's Labyrinth and Ruby Sparks.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once worked as a project leader for Katimavik, and that was truly amazing. Basically, you live with 11 young people and mentor them as they volunteer, bond as a group, do activities, etc. It was so inspiring to see their development.

Teach, Learn, Share

I`m happy to do a language exchange. I sometimes teach English back in Canada.

I can also teach basic swing dance, though I am not a professional by any means! Like many, I enjoy cooking, baking, and photography.
