About Me

CURRENT MISSION

putting off putting my smarts to use. India

ABOUT ME

I have a lot of interests, a few divergent passions, and no inclination to narrow my scope for now.

but yeah, I'm pretty easy going. I like having company and being company. And having long conversations about anthro/social identity/politics/social issues/drugs/nature/reality tv/pooping. I like learning through conversation.

I like spending my time on a porch or on a walk (grass, barefeet).

I've been in India since August 2012 (until ~May 2013), on a research grant studying power structures in a small, esoteric Islamic sect called the Dawoodi Bohras. I'm moving to Mumbai soon.

i sometimes sing Frank Sinatra in the shower.

PHILOSOPHY

being around friends (or making new ones) is pretty much enough to be happy

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm moving to Mumbai in January and hope to host then.

Music, Movies, and Books

An arbitrary mix of profound and recent:

Twin Peaks, Louie, West Wing, The Wire, Party Down, Parks and Rec, Arrested Development

Synecdoche NY, There Will Be Blood, Blue Valentine, Elephant Man, Rear Window, Philip Seymoore Hoffman a lot lately for some reason

Flannery o'Conner, Vonnegut, Letters to Emma Bowlcut, Fitzgerald, The Master and the Margarita by Mikahil Bulgakov, dabbling in some Kafka. Orientalism. Pretty much any article from my Anthro of Religion class

St. Vincent, Andrew Bird, Bill Callahan/Smog, Little Joy, James Blake, Himanshu, Das Racist, Joanna Newsom, Why?, Ravi Shankar, Dirty Projectors, Microphones, Karl Blau

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent two weeks in Kodaikanal in South India. It was the first time I spent time in a town that felt as welcoming as a family.

I climbed a mountain in Yemen once to get to a tomb at the top. But I was four and had parental supervision, so maybe this doesn't count.

Teach, Learn, Share

also probably covered elsewhere. but...

- Dawoodi Bohras, their theology and social structure... although idk who'd be asking
- Palestine/Israel. Mid East Politics / Islam
- how to tie your shoe in less than 3 seconds.

Teach me about anthropology or how to cook. or lets just talk about how our individuality is actually a social construct

Countries I’ve Visited
