About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Keeping all the balls in the air while still having time to spend with Yuko and the kids. Enjoying that. Picking up more balls. Repeat.

ABOUT ME

I'm German and have studied and worked for nine years in the US before coming back to Germany and moving to the Rhein-Main area. My wife Yuko is Japanese-American and used to live in Colombia as a child. We met in Hong Kong where we lived for about a year in 95/96 and now have three children.

We used to have lots of Japanese au-pairs. Then we were also hosting with a Syrian refugee mother and her 16-year old son. They're stayed with us for a bit more than a year. After that came a Japanese college lecturer and her Korean-born daughter staying with us for a year and a refugee family from Ukraine who stayed with us for six months until we found them a permanent place.

Rosa, our bulldog, sadly passed . Now we have a Romanian mutt and the house shouldn't be considered dog hair free.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now, hosting is difficult.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Mostly hosting so far ... :-)

Interests

Addicted to listening to NPR through the internet at home and to catching up on my reading on the commute into Frankfurt.

Music, Movies, and Books

About 20ft of unread books still waiting for just the right moment. Plenty of books ready to go traveling with interested couchsurfers - I don't keep the ones I've finished reading.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Burning Man 2006, 2010 & 2013 - amazing!
Best vacations: river rafting on the West Coast.
Best recurring vacation: Once a year I work as a cook on large-ish historic sail boats (best was a 150ft. three-mast schooner with a crew of 29), great fun!

Teach, Learn, Share

"Cooking, receipes" would be the easiest answer to all three. I'll also talk your ear off about Burning Man if you prompt me...and about civic engagement, life lived leaning forward, how everything is getting better despite daily bad news.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Japan, Malaysia, Martinique, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Russian Federation, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, Venezuela, Virgin Islands, British

Countries I’ve Lived In

Germany, Hong Kong, United States
