About Me
This is a summary from my website. You can find more details about me on Linked In too. The reason why I am not accepting guest is because I am away travelling a lot!
Originally trained in France as an environmental engineer with a strong background in media and communication, Fred has been as a marine scientist in a variety of remote field based projects ranging from tropical reef monitoring to
Antarctic ecology. Fred’s PhD research focused on monitoring signals of climate change in the breeding habitats of Antarctic seabirds and gave her a wealth of experience with both Antarctic and Sub-Antarctic environments and operations, with 14 consecutive seasons (including 2 Antarctic and 1 Sub Antarctic long overwintering expeditions).
In parallel, she worked as an environmental engineer, wilderness photographer, expedition guide, lecturer and commercial skipper and became involved in documentary production as logistic support/camera/sound, all projects field based as she enjoys team work and the challenges of being autonomous in remote conditions. As such, she supported natural history projects such as BBC “Planet Earth”, BBC “South Pacific”, Nat Geo “Great Migrations”
From 2009 to 2012, Fred was mostly involved in logistics for Antarctic resupply operations as watercraft operator and voyage manager during the austral summers and freelance photographer and cameraperson during the winters. In February 2013, Fred returned from a second overwintering year-long trip in Antarctica filming Emperor Penguins for BBC series “Spy in the Huddle”, a project which supported collaborative research on the use of robots to study penguins. This resulted in producing a scientific documentary for the French Antarctic Institute IPEV and followed several months in remote Western Australia filming Dolphins for BBC "Spy in the pod".
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love travelling and I am not a very good tourist. I more often work in the countries that I visit and that's the best way for me to get to know the place and meet the locals, so I like using Couchsurfing or Air BNB at least to meet the locals, understand the lifestyle and the country better. Hopefully when I am back home for more time, I will build my guest cabin on my bush block and have the chance to receive guests and welcome them to a Tasmanian bush experience 10 minutes from Hobart city.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I have overwintered twice in Antarctica to film the Emperor penguins. To date and to my knowledge, I am the only person to have done this. But I have also done a lot of other interesting things such as sail my own yacht to Tikopia and Anuta, film in a remote swamp in Papua New Guinea,
