About Me

Worked in media, trained as a journalist - had my own Media Solutions business in Perth Australia: worked in Kenya on a couple of projects, wrote for the local Expats, Coastal newspaper; worked in PNG in the British High Commission as their Informations and Commercial Officer, then worked as PA to the High Commissioner. My husband worked for Civil Aviation in Australia then was seconded to PNG where we met. He worked in Electrical engineering, now retired - but handily he still maintains his Electrical workers licence! We base ourselves between living in our house in England touring around Europe and visiting our family in Perth, and trying to spend a bit of time in Ron's home town Melbourne.
We have two adult sons, both live in Perth and have families, so we enjoy spending time in Perth with our grandchildren!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We have hosted many people from other - now seemingly defunct "freeloading" sites, whilst living in Australia, France and on many occasions in England. So although we have family and friends we enjoy meeting new friends on our travels in the hope that it will be a mutually beneficial experience, one which we look back on and will enhance our travels and add to our hosts experiences.
We also enjoy house and pet sitting which we do about 3 or 4 times a year in France, England and Germany, plus house/pet sitting in Australia during our annual vacation here. We house/pet sat in PNG for a friend who had snakes, injured sea eagles, cockatoos, cats and three dogs! We discovered one of the snakes had escaped, thankfully, we found it under the sink!
When at our home we often host young French students who are over with their schools on "Cultural" short stay holidays, by doing this we are giving the students chance to improve their English language in a friendly environment, and I get chance to improve my French!
Basically, we enjoy meeting people, helping people, exploring, even finding new places to explore in our own home town!

Interests

Ron is a runner, goes out for 16kms runs 3 or 4 times a week plus he plays squash! Ron has a guitar, in fact two, one in UK and the other in Perth, he has all the manuals and music, but is still at the "trying to learn how to play it!" stage, and that's after at least 20+ years!
I love doing less energetic activities, such as cooking, painting, pottery, sculpture - in clay, reading, working on the computer, gardening, most arty crafty things interest me.

Music, Movies, and Books

Eclectic taste in music from Clasical, Pavarotti, Van Morrison, The Beatles, Adele, Westlife, The Drifters, Amy Winehouse etc
Recent films I have enjoyed, The Imitation Game, The First and the Second Marigold Hotels; just been introduced to Angelina Jolie's films and have been surprised that, though they are a bit violent, they are good entertaining films! I enjoy a good movie but don't go the the cinema often, prefer to watch at home!
Books, I read lots but again I could not name my favourite author, but I like mystery, historical, factual and fiction based on facts.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've been pony trecking in Kashmir! I've camped in a tent in game parks in Kenya; the car was chased by an injured hippo who was resting on the side of a river bank and we stopped the car, that was a close call! I've been down the Arcelor Mittal slide in Olympic Park London, a real experience!

Teach, Learn, Share

I have my Diploma and Certificate for teaching English as a foreign language. (TEFL) We enjoy sharing our home with the French students we host who come over as a class to visit the area. I often use the skills I have been taught to help the students with their English. We host about 30 students over a 12 month period.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Our experiences of living in various countries; general life experiences of which we have many! We can share a bottle of wine and a beer or two! Plus I can cook you a meal if you want me to do that.
