About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Making things grow!

ABOUT ME

Damian is nerdy, socially awkward, and easily sidetracked. He likes things that grow and clever ideas. He's diplomatic to a fault. Dani might say insincere, Damian would say pragmatically humanist. How do you know what he really thinks of you? Don't worry, he actually truly does love everybody.

Dani's the opposite in this respect. If you want an honest opinion, ask her. If we stay on your couch, Dani will probably cook you a delicious dinner. She'll be sad, in fact, if she doesn't get to. She appreciates good design and has very good taste in music. She also has very poor coordination and dexterity. Hide the crystal.

We both like thoughtful people, good music, sitting, and smart politics.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have been home for about a year and settling in nicely. We have been delighted to discover that we LOVE hosting just as much as we enjoyed surfing. We are finally getting our chance to pay back all that CS karma!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

WWOOFed and couchsurfed in France, WWOOFed in Greece, slept on couches in Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Egypt and Sudan, WWOOFed in Ethiopia, more couches in Spain, Romania, Hungary, The Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and France again.

After two months in Ethiopia the idea of paying what we used to pay for hostels seems preposterous.

Interests

Music, Movies, and Books

Dani:
I tend to like art that is independent and literary. I particularly appreciate a literary quality in films, but also in music. In films I want an auteur. I want to see a singular creative vision. Mutual Appreciation, Me and You and Everyone We Know, All The Real Girls, Etre et avoir.

I like music to be simple, expressive, and groundbreaking. Independent pop is where it's at. Little Wings, Bishop Allen, the Mountain Goats, etc.
It's impossible to define what I like in books.

Damian:
Generally, I can appreciate anything, but I prefer it well crafted or with a theme I can relate to (i.e. politics). FLCL is pure and good, The Girl in the Cafe resonated with me, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind had both, and Day of the Dead had neither, but I liked it anyway cuz of the zombies. Terry Gilliam is fantastic.
I love the politics of Alabama 3 and the feel of the Magnetic Fields. The Eels, Beck, and Cake.
Reading My Name is Red with Dani and it's amazing. Favorite book is Zodiac, where a post-post-hippy beats polluters with organic chemistry and biting cynicism.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The color of the Aegean Sea on a stormy day, Turkish and Sudanese hospitality, monkeys! They have hands! HANDS!

Teach, Learn, Share

We can teach you how to swing dance, identify useful herbs, cook, maintain your bicycle, and make an ocarina with your hands.
