About Me

I want to meet people who can educate me about their lives, who want to enrich others through knowledge and sharing, and for me to do the same with others. Also, to cut down on expenses.

I live in a co-operative house which takes a lot of my time, and is based around self-improvement and offering affordable housing to a community with increasingly predatory rent practices.

My interests include current affairs, local government, pacifism, religion, hiking and backpacking, sports, and other miscellaneous things. I spend an inordinate amount of time focused on my beard.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm couchsurfing in order to cut down on costs when traveling, and to meet new and interesting people. I want to learn their stories, but mostly I want to share a moment of being with them.

I'm also offering my bed and my couch in my room to couchsurfers who need a free place to stay in Bloomington. At Middle Earth, we also have a bed we call the "Hobbit Hole", because it is a bed up in a cozy nook. It costs nothing to be kind, and some day maybe we can pay it forward to every person we meet.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm currently obsessed with Bon Iver and Ruston Kelly.
My favorite movie is Lady in the Water.
I really enjoyed the book Rant, but am focusing a lot of my literature intake on the psychology of pacifism.

These questions have answers that are more involved than I can properly communicate on a website.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I worked for five years with adults with intellectual disabilities.

It was difficult, but I would never trade that experience for anything. It taught me so much about myself, compassion, the world, and how others find strength within themselves to face life's challenges, as saccharine as that sounds.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach - Hmm, interesting. I'm learning the fiddle so I could pass that on I suppose.
Learn - More about how people approach compassion. I've recently let the state of the world affect me internally.
Share - Our positive experiences. A hug.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Whatever they want to know. I'm a fairly open book.

I have a lot of dreams I don't know how to obtain. We can talk about my not great poetry, politics, and the concept of humanity. Or about movies, music, books, etc.

Let me pick your brain.
