About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Mentorcation in Asia, help teaching children in schools, hospitals and help farmers return back to organic farming.
ABOUT ME
I was an IT consultant back in my home town in England and everything was going really well but i had something missing in my life. I had worked and set up quite a few volunteer projects back home but still knew i had more to give but never knew how but my changed my path in life almost 3 years ago when i came to Asia for a 2 month holiday. I started in Bali where i set up various free school projects helping people of all ages teaching everything from English, computer studies, marketing to business. I Also involved myself in other community projects like farming. After Bali i came to Thailand where i set up a free project in a government hospital helping teach the staff medical English as they found it really hard to communicate with foreigners. In private hospitals this is fine as the staff already speak English. After this i have been contacted by a doctor who has asked me if i can help with future projects and help organise them and couldnt believe i did all this for free. My next project is to teach in Isaan in a school in a small village with only 60 houses and will also help a farm return back to organic farming. I am also helping with a project for recycling where we will build some small houses for volunteers to stay from plastic bottles. I should be in Thailand until the end of 2015 when the project should be able to sustain itself before looking at moving on to the next place, maybe Nepal, who knows. I go where the world calls me.
PHILOSOPHY
I live my life like this because for me i was lucky to have an education for free and had people to push me forward, usually the teachers, my first boss taught me about the person i wanted to be and as i was from a not so good back ground myself but was lucky to break free i realised that if i hadn't had a dream non of this would be realistic now. Now is the time to give others a chance to follow their dreams, helping people realise their dreams and giving them the belief they can do it is better than any job could pay me.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I am just a normal guy who decided to do something different with my life. I can be a geek or a can be a party animal, im just your average Joe with a passion for life. I am not a registered charity or an NGO as i dont like how these operate and find that organisations like these pay themselves large sums of money while the projects get very little. Everyone who has volunteered with me has never paid a cent, the only thing i ask for is time. For some reason i believe i was born to do this and it has changes my life completely.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have not couchsurfed as of yet but have heard so many good things about it that its something i am willing to try. One of the biggest things i face living in Asia is the cost of accommodation when moving from place to place. Usually where the projects take place i am given free accommodation and free food so this helps as everything that is needed i pay for myself as I have a small monthly income which enables me to do this. With couchsurfing this would also help me more in pushing the projects forward by helping me keep my costings down.
Interests
My interests are varied and am open to most things. Sometimes i just like to relax and sit in silence, other times i like to go to a movie. I play ping pong and badminton, watch football, play chess and listen to music .
