About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to broaden my horizons

ABOUT ME

If you're at all interested in classical music, cookery or languages, do get in touch.

I write and sing choral music and have recently turned my hand to playwriting. My soup parties are legendary, as is the liveliness of my dog Charlie.

Your challenge is to get me as interested in your part of the world as I am in Vienna. Introducing me to a new gin is always a good start!

PHILOSOPHY

Do as you would be done by, or on a more flippant note: when in doubt, have a gin and tonic.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'll go on a lot about music given half a chance, so this is just going to be about films. The two directors whose new films I make a point of seeing are François Ozon and Pedro Almodóvar. Beyond that, I have a thing for Hitchcock and silent films, especially horror.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Non-travel related, it has to do spending one summer looking after my grandmother after she'd had a stroke. I owed her a lot as a child and, as difficult as it sometimes was, it was very rewarding to be able to take care of her.
Flying LaudaAir (in its precharter days) from Vienna to Geneva, in a tiny plane across the snow-topped Alps, with a decent Austrian breakfast served on china plates, with proper cutlery and linen napkin. What a fantastic experience that was!

Teach, Learn, Share

How about I show you how to make a Scottish dish and you show me how to make one from your home?
