About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Fighting Shoulder to Shoulder with the Poor against poverty and other injustices

ABOUT ME

I was working in my studio in San Juan, Puerto Rico on a clay vase. I had given an exercise class earlier that evening, walked the dogs, and settled down to my most favorite part of the day, next to exercising that is, working in my studio into the night. The week had been somewhat stressful and I don’t remember exactly why but I had talked about going to Africa like I had been doing for years. At times of stress I made it a tradition, for about six or seven years, to think or comment about going to Africa to help people. I would say this jokingly with no real intention of actually going there. In fact I had no desire to travel to Africa, ever. My remarks were a technique I would use to put whatever was stressing me out (usually money) into proportion by comparing my problems to what other people might be suffering. I knew my stress was ‘self induced ‘and contradicted my spiritual beliefs but sometimes it did not matter. So, often in ceramics class or before a workout with my neighbors, I would say something like “Well if this dream life I’ve been able to enjoy for so long some day just falls apart, I can always do something really important like go comfort people who are dying of AIDS in Africa.” I would usually follow with a weak little laugh or wait for someone to shut me up by telling me to stop being ridiculous.

PHILOSOPHY

Being grateful for the amazing gift of life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have found hosts years ago in 2006 when I was living in California, but mostly hosted for people through the nonprofit organizations I've worked with.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couch surfed in Los Angeles in 2006, and had a very good host, also hosted numerous times. Most of my experience comes from friends who use couch surfing often and share their experiences with me.
