About Me

I am a French traveler. I've left France at five and I've grew up in Africa (4 years in Morocco and 6 in Senegal). At the age of 16 I came back to Paris for 4 years and lived for 3 years in Bordeaux. I left France at the end of 2013 to Australia and after some crazy adventures there I decided to keep this up for as long as I could because I cannot think of any better thing to do in life.

For now the plan is to keep on traveling as long as I will be able to without settling anywhere more than a few months.
I travel mostly to meet different people, challenge myself with different ways of thinking and lifestyles. For me, sightseeing and tourist attractions are a plus but not an objective. I travel to learn, I travel to grow, I travel to be as free as possible.

As earning money can be difficult when you're not in your own country I like alternatives way of doing things. I hitchhike a lot, I spend most nights in a tent when I am not staying in cities and I never say no to a work opportunity! I am not above dumpster diving if I need to.
I like to see myself as a wanderer as I don't make plans, go with the flow and have no desire to return to my country yet.

Eventually when I will be done with my travels I want to settle back to Africa and set up a perma-culture farm in a rural community. I want to help the local communities of Senegal to improve their way of farming and cope with the effects of global warming while building a Perma-Culture farm of my own design and a home where I can build a life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on couchsurfing to meet people in the different places my travels lead me. I think that the best way to get to know a place is by meeting people living there and couchsurfing is a great way to do just that.
Not having a home at the moment I cannot host people but when I do settle somewhere someday I will be returning the favor.

Interests

Here is an non-exhaustive list of my interests at the moment:

-Traveling in different places and getting to know different things and people.

-Geopolitics and knowledge of how our world works. I follow French and international news and I am quite knowledgeable about how things are in the world and why.

-Books, especially Travel stories, Science-fiction and Fantasy but I don't discriminate.

-Writing. It would be pretentious to call myself a writer but I enjoy writing the stories of my travels and all the amazing experiences I've been through. I do not take pictures or videos but I write everything!

-Computers and internet technology, even if self taught I will be happy to resolve any computer related issue you have. I like the challenge and oddly it is a pleasure for me to spend countless hours on a computer problem!

-Movies & TV shows.

-Science, Metaphysics and philosophy.

-Knowledge. If you have something to teach I would be happy to learn it.

-Self-improvement and discipline. I am always looking to better myself and tend to be overly self-conscious. I am currently very interested to learn more about Zen philosophy.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to every kind of music, from classic Rock'n'Roll (Led Zep, Rolling Stones, Iggy & The Stooges, Beattles and so on...) to Electro (Ratatat, Gramatik, Birdy Nam Nam) but I enjoy South American music as much as traditional arabic music as much as Classical music. If it's good I want to hear it! (I usually don't like pop music but I still have some guilty pleasures that I won't admit here :D)

Movie-wise I also watch all kind of different stuff. I have a soft spot for Tarantino movies and Guy Ritchie movies (Snatch, Lock, Stock and two smoking barrels) but I am also a big fan of Japanese animation (Miyazaki), Fantasy (Lord of the Ring, Conan), Science-Fiction (Star-Wars, Blade Runner, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate), English comedy (Shaun of the Dead, Monthy Python) but I always enjoy a good Western or an action movie. If it's good I want to watch it!

And why would it be different for the books? I read a lot and since I am a little kid. I read the Bilbo the hobbit at 8, The Illiad and The Odyssey at 9, Lord of the ring at 10 etc...
Amongst my favorite books is On the road by Kerouac, The portrait of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, Melmoth the Wanderer by Charles Maturin, La Zone du Dehors by Alain Damasio, the Foundation series by Asimov, A Brave New World by Huxley... I am a literature student so it is hard for me to choose favorite books, I am always traveling with 5 or 6 different books and I have a hard time reading only one at a time :D
Again, if it's good I want to read it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've traveled all around Australia and also crossed the red center from north to south by hitchhiking. A grand total of 18.000 kilometers during the course of my working holiday visa.

I have been in every continent but south america

Teach, Learn, Share

I am afraid I have very little to teach except for what I know and what I have experienced. I have a lot of skills that I can teach you but all of them are work related so it might not be something that you like to do during your free time.
If you have a garden I can teach you how to make a vegetable garden according to perma-culture principles. I probably won't stay enough time to see it done (Nature takes time) but I would be happy to help you get set started and ready to grow.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am always happy to tell my stories to people. After several years on the road I have experienced a lot of interesting and crazy things that I am always happy to tell to people.
If you are into traveling I can advise you on places to go and help you plan trips. I can teach you how to travel for very cheap and how to get authentic experiences away from mass tourism.
