About Me

I'm a 19 year old German, and the smallest brother of 3 other siblings. My parents and I live on an island lying on the western part of the Norwegian coast, where we tend to a farm and 80 Old-Norwegian-Wildsheep.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm currently traveling Germany, going from Blacksmith to blacksmith to search for a place to find an apprenticeship for next fall.
When these travels end though, a new voyage begins. In mid September, I'll bord a vessel headed to the West Indies, where I plan to collect experience and sea-mileage aboard greater sailing ships, so that I might qualify for the rank of ordinary seaman.

I hope to use this platform during that time so that I, like now, might get meet and experience more of this fantastic community during my travels.

Interests

As I lived on a farm, and stayed on an island, I rather quickly learnt to appreciate craftsmanship and handiwork.
When I then started to commute to and from the island in an open Nordlands-faering, and learnt to and sail these old traditions crafts, did this inherent interest in handwork spark over and into the world of marlinspike seamanship.
From there my fascination for seafaring tradition grew more and more, and I started exploring it's related trades like carpentry and metalwork.
I started fixing old boats, tinkering and repairing old locks, smithing chest hinges, and building various sea-chests and other smaller products of tradition carpentry and metalwork.

Now that I'm done with my school time, my passion for these crafts still burns greatly within me, and have lead me to pursue a path within the blacksmith's, and the sailors craft.

Somewhere down the line, I hope to forge these to paths into one, so that I might walk them both as a vocational road in my journey to become a proper craftsman.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Steering an open sailboat on open waters in a strong weather, with inexperienced crew.

Teach, Learn, Share

Though I'm self learned, and far from accomplished, am I always happy to share anything I've learnt as a want-to-be-blacksmith or want-to-be-carpenter.
More than that though, am I always interested in learning. If it be skills and information, stories or life-experience, will you always find me to be an open listener, and a eager sharer too.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a generally forthcoming person, who gladly shares or partakes in the household or other chores if I'm able too. I'm both comfortable on my own and with strangers, and I'm always interested in conversation.
