About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To have adventures, whatever they end up being. Not to plan!
ABOUT ME
On my big Australian adventure! I left a full time job in England in August 2014 to explore the unknown in Australia! I booked a one way flight, and 3 nights in a hostel in Sydney, but had no other plans past that. I love the uncertainty as it makes me more open to new adventures and experiences. So far this has gone amazingly well!
PHILOSOPHY
Every decision I make while I've been travelling seems to involve a risk. My new philosophy though is that usually those risks are worth taking for the experiences you have as a result. I also think that trusting people and assuming the good in them is a pretty good philosophy!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My first host kindly allowed us to stay far longer than originally arranged, and we had loads of long evenings on his deck, drinking beers and having debates! One of the best things about the experience though, was that my host showed me his city through his eyes. We rode his motorbike through stunning scenery to a small town nearby for lunch, we caught a ferry to the city and wandered around listening to street performers. We drank in the local pubs (no backpackers, just people who really live there!). His generosity was astounding, and has made me even more certain that couch surfing is something I will try to pursue further.
Interests
Nothing all that out of the ordinary really. Festivals, eating, drinking, dancing, exploring.
Over the last few months though I think I could now be allowed to say travelling as a genuine interest, and one which I hope to be able to continue for as long as possible. I have always enjoyed travelling but in the past only for holidays. Now that I've bitten the bullet and taken a leap of faith to the other side of the world, the travel bug seems to have well and truly bitten me! I've gone from 'responsible nurse who works 50 hour weeks and is miserable' to 'traveller, no money, no job, huge grin all the time!'

Music, Movies, and Books
I read a lot, and am not at all fussy about the books I read, as I find escape in focusing on a story. However, some that I have particularly enjoyed are:
-Moon Tiger by Penelope Lively
-The Bronze Horseman
-Life of Pi
-Jilly Cooper novels
-What I was doing while you were breeding
I love to listen to music but am useless at knowing the names of bands or songs, and I don't have a particular 'style' of music that I like. Just whatever I can have a dance or a sing along to!
Movies, again I have a fairly broad taste in. I don't like horror films (people keep recommending I watch Wolf Creek but so far I've resisted!) but apart from that fairly easy! I love movie nights, and have very much enjoyed a night in with a film when couch surfing. Some films I like:
-The Beach
-Into the Wild
-Pretty Woman
-The Holiday
-American History X
-Django Unchained
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
When we were in Cape Tribulation, we were taken out for the day by a local man who took us riding horses in the sea bareback. That was pretty amazing!
Teach, Learn, Share
I can do a reasonable hair braid (see my pictures for examples!) and am happy to put them in peoples hair!
I'm a nurse, and can help with first aid etc!
