About Me

CURRENT MISSION

After spending 80 days on the road, I'm ready to give back and play host in Honolulu.

ABOUT ME

I was born and bred in the Bay Area, even went to college there. I graduated with an impractical major at the height of the Recession, so I was not going to jump into a career. Fortunately, I did not want to. I figured I'm still young with few responsibilities and no dependents, I might as well explore the world a bit.

I started by moving to Hawaii.

I've been in Honolulu for over a year, which is long enough. I've settled in, carved out a social circle, and have completed most of my Hawaii bucket list. It's time for my next adventure: a 3 month roadtrip around the continental United States this summer.

UPDATE: On the road now! I'll be hunting for some last-minute couches.

UPDATE: Just finished my roadtrip. Around the States in 80 days! Thank you to everybody who helped me and Ian accomplish this journey!

PHILOSOPHY

You never know when there's no tomorrow, so don't use today planning for it. Enjoy what you can, when you can, if it's within your means to do so.

Music, Movies, and Books

MOVIES: This is what I studied in college, so it's a bit of a hard question. I will tell you I like sprawling epics as much as feel-good indies, and many things in between. I do not like pretentious art house films or flicks that cater to dumb audiences.
(Notable: The Shawshank Redemption, Saving Private Ryan, Empire Strikes Back, Little Miss Sunshine)

MUSIC: Not too picky. I enjoy many artists from many genres, but tend to favor classic rock hits.
(Notable: Wolfmother, The Beatles, Eminem, Elton John, Gorillaz, Queen, Red Hot Chili Peppers)

Books: I've come to realize I like non-fiction, whether it be a modern-day memoir or historical accounts.
(Notable: David Sedaris, WWII memoirs, World War Z, Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

During one weekend during the summer I studied abroad in Mexico, a group of friends and I traveled to Maruata, a relatively unknown, untouristy beach village. We slept in cabanas and did nothing but lounge around and swim all day. One particular night, we started a campfire on the beach with a group of young Guadalajarans we'd met earlier. It took a while for us to get the fire going, but it eventually started burning strong. At the same time, the stars above shone brighter than I'd ever seen, while over the ocean's horizon we could see a distant lightening storm. Also, as we walked along the beach, tiny green diatoms lit up wherever we stepped. It was magical how many light sources surrounded our nighttime bonfire.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can tell you much about film--from history and theories to blockbuster hype--and television. I can show you how to change a flat tire (bike or car) and solve a Rubik's Cube. I can teach you how to ride a bike with no handlebars.

Please help me hone my writing skills and improve my Spanish.
