About Me

CURRENT MISSION

No mission I suppose, just to keep learning and keep the future open to new possibilities

ABOUT ME

I grew up on a small farm in South Dakota, hoping to some day take over the farm. I studied agronomy at South Dakota State University and found new ideas and new possibilities that led me to pursue a degree in the Netherlands in applied anthropology.

I wanted to use agronomy for international development and the program was perfect for me to find possibilities to pursue this - but my degree led me instead to pursue a career in anthropology.

I am currently living in Carrboro, NC with my wife, working on a PhD in anthropology.

I am passionate about social change, human rights, and involved discussion. I enjoy chatting with new acquaintances, challenging my own assumptions, and seeing new places.

PHILOSOPHY

I try to understand other people's opinion and have a difficult time relating to people who don't make that effort. I believe in worker's rights, human rights, fair trade, and sustainable agriculture.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love The Jungle, Grapes of Wrath, 1984, Animal Farm - classic stuff. My favorite music is Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Billy Bragg, and Wilco - I also love Mercedes Sosa and Silvio Rodriquez.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Standing atop a hill above San Agustin, Bolivia and looking out over the Salt Flats of Uyuni, quinoa fields, and beautiful vistas as far as I could see.

Close second - sitting in a 4X4 with an elephant charging in Ghana. Such an amazing animal!
