About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To experience the world from inside the culture, and to share my world and experiences with others.

ABOUT ME

I am the 2nd child of 6 kids. I grew up in the mountains of NC but don't really have a southern accent. I love climbing trees, mountains, rocks... I travelled a lot with my grandparents all over the U.S. I started running competitively at age 11. I love being outdoors and adventure sports. I received a B.A. in Parks and Recreation Management, Natural Resourse Management and Environmental Studies at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I ran Cross Country and Track at UNCW. I studied abroad in Cardiff, Wales for a summer session and took the opportunity to travel for a week before school and a month after school. I love to travel and experience other cultures! I spent a summer in Kenya on a Global Project and lived with a family part of that time.
I am married to a wonderfully talented man who is an artist, writer/director/filmmaker. We have 2 amazing children who make me laugh, smother me with kisses(my 4-yr. old son), and continue to surprise me with how much they know and how quickly they learn. I love being a mom!!! Currently, my life is busy with violin, soccer and swim team practice, carpooling from my daughter's school, and working a couple of mornings/week in a kids center at a fitness club.
I did manage to get away for 2 weeks (for the 1st time since I've been married) in March 2011 to visit my brother who has been living in Morocco. We also took some time to visit Italy too! My brother has been hosting couch surfers for 3 years now and so this trip was my 1st experience with it. I think it is so great and wish it had been around when I was in college!

PHILOSOPHY

Treat others the way you want to be treated. Choose to be positive regardless of your circumstances. Live life to the fullest and make the most of each day. Look for ways to serve rather than waiting to be served. Whistle! Sing! Play! Love!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

So far, I have surfed and travelled with surfers. I look forward to hosting in the near future.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My brother, Ethan Boehm, has been a CFer for 3 years and when I visited him in Morocco, he had other CFers there from Frnace and Germany. It was such a rich atmosphere and a wonderful time learning and sharing about where we were all from and our travel experiences. They even played the guitar and sang to us in French! It was so great!!!
Ethan and I then surfed with a Berber family in a small village in the Middle Atlas Mountains in Morocco. Ethan has become very close with this family and they have "adopted" him as their son. They made us the most amazing couscous and mint tea! The mother took me to the hammam and the sister did henna on my hands. I wish we could have spent a lot more time with this family. The host visits my brother quite frequently.
My 1st experience staying with CFers that we didn't know was in Florence, Italy. Ethan and I stayed with a couple there 2 nights and they were great hosts. They had a beautiful home,we had our own room and cooked for us both nights! This couple loved to travel and it was great to hear about some of their trips. We also met another CFing couple who were not able to host us but met us in Florence for an evening out on the town. They were so great!
We stayed with another CFer that neither of us knew in Rome. We stayed with a math teacher (my bro is a high school math teacher) and had our own room. He was a very organized host. He had chocolates for us in our room, and signs everywhere on how to make ourselves at home, use the shower, etc. We didn't get to spend much time with him but nonetheless, he was a great host!
When I was on my way back home, I had an overnight layover in Madrid, Spain. My brother hooked me up with a CFing friend who met me and showed me around the city and we had wonderful tapas and sangria!
I love Couch Curfing!!! I look forward to being able to surf with other families with my husband and children and in the future hosting families at our home!
