About Me

CURRENT MISSION

job hunt time...yay (? !)

ABOUT ME

I love learning, making things, and meeting people.
I just graduated with an MFA in interdisciplinary book and paper arts.

I don't have a ton of CS.org experience (because I've been a hermit aka grad student most of the time I've lived in Chicago), but last year I undertook a five-week road trip with my partner Matt (http://www.couchsurfing.org/profile.html?id=LNKHXU5), couchsurfing and visiting art communities on the east coast/midwest/south as part of my thesis project. :)

I'm also interested in one day working with up a community art center here in Chicago, so learning how other people do/have done this and just hearing others' thoughts on how artmaking can participate more radically and inventively in communities would be great.

Otherwise, I'm definitely the more introverted of the two of us, but Matt loves to get out and about--if I can't entertain ya, maybe he can! More about us both here:

Oh, and we're both queer & LGBTQ-friendly, vegetarian/vegan friendly, politically progressive, and artists. Hooray!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

a bit of a newbie, so I'll do the best I can with what I'm able to!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

spent five weeks on the road last year where we surfed for half of it--but not through couchsurfing, just from people in my field's listservs offering us places to stay.

we hosted people for the 2011 Chicago Couch Crash though and that was fun!

Interests

art-making, papermaking, bookarts. feminism, fat-fashion (or fatshion!), self-acceptance. crafts, zines, self-publishing, public & street art. people-watching. people-meeting. collaboration. drawing. collages and art boxes with found things. pi. origami. faerie tales. urban exploration. maps. obsolete technology. nuclear war survival planning.

Music, Movies, and Books

movies with realistic or fantastic characters. action/heist movies, dramas, horror/thriller (not slasher). I particularly love 30 rock, community, battlestar galactica, star trek, and stand-up comedy.

drumnbass, dubstep, metal, other. almost anything live.

my favorite booklist is kinda ridiculous (I am in a Book Arts graduate program!), but mostly I read nonfiction now. favorites there include No More Prisons (William Wimsatt), Days of War/Nights of Love (Crimethinc), The Reenchantment of Art (Suzi Gablik).

I like old Stephen King (up to the Green Mile--The Stand, The Mist, and The Shining are my favorites), Tanith Lee's Biting the Sun set, Douglas Adams, and Harry Potter (yep).

I welcome more poetry in my life.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I am never let down by how amazing people are.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a Jill of all trades...master of papermaking and book arts.
that said, whaddya wanna know?
chainmail, pinhole photography, art history, how to hopscotch?

I wrote a book on book arts and community centers that I visited in the eastern time zone. go me!
