About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To infect the world with psaltery fever and to entertain and educate people about awesome music.

ABOUT ME

Some facts about me, in no particular order - I'm vegan. I'm a musician who plays the flute, piano, bodhran, pennywhistle, bowed psaltery, hurdy-gurdy, and whatever else I can get my hands on. I love to read. I love to cook. I design jewelry, pouches, and polymer clay creations under the name Knightime Creations. I'm a dancer (bellydance, lindy hop, blues, Body Choir, contra dance, and more). I sew and design clothes. I love Renaissance faires and am a member of the SCA. I love to knit. I'm not very good with numbers. I'm a complete sci-fi geek. I'm in a Renaissance Faire band called the Tulstin Troubadours and play by myself as Apryl Knight.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe in enjoying myself and causing no harm to anyone (human or animal). I hold music as my highest and best for of expression, and my reason for living, but I'm also a big fan of the creative spirit in general. The two movies that mesh best with my personal philosophy are "The Wizard Of Speed And Time" and "Dogma" (I don't believe, but I've got a good idea...)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've stayed with a few CouchSurfing members (still new-ish on this site), and I've also stayed with various friends while traveling - I usually "pay" for the privilege by making yummy baked goods for everyone. Since I travel around the country to perform, I'm also happy to play music for my CouchSurfing hosts and to talk about music as much as you'd like.

Interests

I am a professional musician, and I love to read, knit, dance, and make jewelry in my free time.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite books are actually a series - the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon - historical fiction with lots of romance, set mostly in Scotland. Also, The Pooh Dictionary and Pooh's Life Instruction Book are great - all hail to the bear of very little brain! I'm a fan of historical fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, history, mysteries (yay, Sherlock Holmes!), and biographies. I've recently started reading "As Always, Julia", which is the letters to and from Avis DeVoto and Julia Child. It's fascinating to have that glimpse back into the past, and also to see what really hasn't changed in 60 years.

If I had to list all of my favorite movies, I'd run out of room. I suppose my top picks for movies would be Serenity, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, The Wizard of Speed and Time, Amelie, Real Genius, Oscar, Noises Off, Monty Python & The Quest For The Holy Grail, Star Wars (eps IV-VI), Clerks, Love Actually, and Still Breathing. My favorite TV shows are Firefly, The Guild (webisodes count, right?), Castle, Sherlock, House, M.D., Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, Star Trek, Dharma & Greg, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I like a very wide variety of music - Irish and Scottish (The Corrs, Beth Patterson, Capercaillie, The Chieftains, Silly Wizard), Scandinavian (Värttinä, Garmarna, Kraja, Susanne Rosenberg), Indian and Bollywood music (I'm a big fan of A. R. Rahman and I adore the entire soundtrack to Main Hoon Na), Tuvan throat singing, Indigo Girls, world fusion (like Delhi 2 Dublin, which combines Indian music with Celtic music), Brian Setzer, Shakira, The Beatles, "Weird" Al Yankovic, The Lost Fingers, Peter Gabriel & Phil Collins, Zap Mama, Azam Ali, Billy Joel, Elton John, Joanna Newsom, Marian Call, Michelle Dockrey, Queen, Herb Alpert, Simon & Garfunkel, The Smothers Brothers, Pentaphobe, Beats Antique, Gypsy Caravan, and Björk. My iTunes main music playlist (all songs) is 8.2 days long, and it's woefully incomplete.

Countries I’ve Visited
