About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Enjoy my life, while I figure out what the universe has in store.

ABOUT ME

Well, I was raised in Boy Scouts. I've spent a few summers working at camps. I love the outdoors and sporty things, though at first glance you wouldn't be able to tell. I joined band in sixth grade, and only put the trombone down when I screwed up in college, but it gave me a profound appreciation for the arts. I used to think the purpose of my life was a mystery, something big, something only about me, that I was destined to do or be. Now I know that was selfish, because the purpose of life is a myth. We are all here to find our own way, and I am finding my own, but not by thinking of myself. I love everything, everyone, and look at every day as a new opportunity to enhance someone's life.

PHILOSOPHY

"Your life is an occasion. Rise to it." - - Dustin Hoffman, Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium

I try to live every day like I'll never see another. I treat everyone with the utmost respect, but I try not to belittle myself along the way. I understand that everyone is equal, and when people get treated otherwise is when things get messed up. Racism, sexism, even playground taunting. We are all different, but we are all the same. Just like everything else in this world. All united by our differences.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now, I live in an apartment with my parents.Technically, you could say I'm couchsurfing, and they're my hosts, because it's a one-bedroom, and usually I take the couch. If it's an urgent situation, I can talk to them and usually get the green light for someone to crash, but I'd need to know at least a day in advance.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I first heard about CouchSurfing when events in life found me on the streets in Austin, Texas. At the time, I saw it as a way to sleep somewhere other than a park for a night or two. But I recently moved to the Washington, DC area, and have been having trouble finding people I can relate to, and would consider good friend material. Then I remembered CouchSurfing, and thought I would try to find a way to meet people on here. It seemed to be a really great community, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I had heard that there were a couple CouchSurfers that needed help moving, and I was more than happy to help. I saw it not only as a chance to meet new people, but also to help someone in need. Plus, I'd heard tell of an after party. I headed down there and helped with the move, planning on riding the Metro back home that evening and going back home. Then they offered to let me crash for the night. They went out of their way to make sure I had blankets, pillows, and a bed to sleep on, and were exceptionally generous and caring. They even took me to breakfast the next morning. I've never met someone as caring as those three amazing people in my entire life, but I know that through CouchSurfing, I'm bound to find many more. I can hardly wait.

Interests

Instead of listing my interests, I'd much rather have you list yours. I like absolutely everything, from hiking and mountain climbing to swimming and kayaking, to windsurfing and ziplines, to sitting home and watching a movie, or curling up with a good book. I like a good night on the town now and then, and everything in between. I do hold a special place in my heart, however, for drum circles and firespinning. There's nothing like swinging a ball of fire and dancing to the beat of twenty, thirty, a hundred individual drums, separate, but united.

Music, Movies, and Books

Again, give me something, I like it all. To name a few books, Harry Potter, the full series. Terry Brooks, Kingdom for Sale series. Anne McCaffrey and her books about the Dragonriders of Pern. Max Brooks, World War Z, and the Zombie Survival Guide, of course. Brave New World, 1984, and 2001: A Space Odyssey. And lately, the Book of Secrets, by Deepak Chopra. I like any movies, except ones with grotesque, senseless violence (i.e., Saw series), and the same goes with music. I was raised on country, from 1920's western swing to 1990's nashville pseudo-rock. A few years ago, I started listening to more alternative rock, some punk, and occasionally top 40. I tend to avoid rap, but I do appreciate it, as well as hip hop and r&b. When I was homeless in Austin and living with hippies, I took part in many tribal drum circles. I'll randomly spout out movie quotes at times, or incorporate a line or two from a song into everyday conversation. You get bonus points if you call me on it and know where I'm getting it from. :D

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I got to pet a penguin at the Omaha Zoo. I shared a PB&J with a squirrel I named Steve. I fed a school of fish a tortilla once. And I've sat under the shade of the Washington Monument, smelled the air and felt the cool grass, and just meditated, thanking the universe for putting me here.

Teach, Learn, Share

Life isn't about the money. Sure, you need some sort of income to get by, but if you've got a job, and it's one that makes you happy, then no matter your salary, you'll find a way to accommodate to it. It was that revelation that opened my eyes to the real beauty of the world. I realized that money doesn't matter, and now, I'm free to be anything.
