About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Conquering the far east!

ABOUT ME

If find that these sections are the hardest to fill out. I'll do a list to make it quick:
I'm true southern boy from southeast Tennessee/Georgia.
I've lived in the shadow of the Appalachian Mountains for most my life and know them well.
I got a late start with international travel. I left the states for the first time when I turned 21.
I have a passion for animals and well written poetry.
I came to China with some grand romantic idea of finding peace -- still looking for it.
I love food and trying new types. I was picky growing up, but I've tried to move out of my picky food mindset over the past couple years.
I'm an avid photographer who was torn from his camera last summer.
I write (less than I should). I have my degree in creative writing, and I focused my attention mainly on creative nonfiction-- memoir, essay, and travel journals.
After meeting a new person, I am shy and quiet for the first little bit. Then, I open up and am a lot more outgoing.
I moved to China without any prior knowledge of the country outside of that which I learned from badly dubbed Chinese martial arts movies.
I'm a gamer. Name the game, I've probably played it.
One thing I want to learn is how to scuba dive.

PHILOSOPHY

"Travel is like love: it cracks you open, and so pushes you over all the low walls and horizons that habits and defensiveness set up." - Pico Iyer

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm a bit unclear as to what to put here. O.o

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've yet to actual couchsurf! Unfortunately, I've been held down for the past couple years and only got to travel with my school. Now, I want to become an expert couchsurfer!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Anything really. Rock, Indie, Country, Classical, Instrumental, Punk, Dubstep, etc.
Movies: I'm a big fan of rom-com, comedy, and action.
Books: I read mostly poetry and creative nonfiction. Li-Young Lee and Yusef Komunyaka are my two favourite poets; while Bill Bryson and Patrick Madden are my two favourite prose writers.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I soaked in a natural hot spring in the Rio Celeste with a waterfall about 50 yards away, saw a volcano erupt less than 48 hours after I hiked it, and took a sporadic half-day drive road trip and then watched the sun come up on the beach before passing out in the sand.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I can help people out with their English and cook proper Southern United States food.

Learn: I would love to pick up bits of the local language and learn something about the culture.

Countries I’ve Visited

China, Costa Rica, Spain, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In
