Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I host when I have a place and surf when I am ramblin again. I've hosted at my cabin in Fairbanks, surfed along the entire California coast (on couches), surfed all over Washington state and Oregon, North Dakota for a summer, Eastern Montana, western Montana, Crashed in a dry cabin in Idaho, Richmond, Virginia for a week, Rocky Mount, NC, Grand Rapids, MI for a month, Ypsilanti, MI here and there, Chicago,IL, Anchorage, AK, Whittier, AK, Talkeetna, AK, and in Colorado during my numerous visits to Grand Junction, Durango, Breckenridge, and Summit County. I have met many new friends through the site and through staying with other couchsurfers. I have made lifelong friends who I have traveled with from couchsurfing.com.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
(See Above) Nothing but positive. Surprisingly very well response time and good luck when I need a warm floor indoors. When I am traveling, I am content with sleeping in the woods; I have proper (minimal!) gear for any season or terrain and have never truly needed or particularly desired a warm floor indoors, but of course it is always appreciated. I use couchsurfing.com because I enjoy meeting new people in the places I go, and I truly love showing up for a couple days and bringing a positive feel, cook food for my hosts, do their dishes, deep clean their bathrooms sometimes, and provide company.
This network almost always generates some engaging conversations and very good times. Its healthy to get outside of your routine!

Music, Movies, and Books
Townes van Zandt, Ramblin Jack Elliot, Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie, Gordon Lightfoot, Jime Croce, Sixto Rodreguez, Neil Young, Otis Redding, Aaron Neville, and plenty more.
Also enjoy Electric Light Orchestra, The Old Crow Medicine Show, the Beach Boys, the Flaming Lips, ect.. I've been listening to the Traveling Willburys recently, and tonight I am going to a Honky Tonk Americana show. Bluegrass festivals.
I would say John Muir is probably my favorite author
Books are my way of education, I read a lot when traveling by myself. Recently just had the pleasure of coming across a few Paulo Coelho and Jack Kerouac books. In the past year or so I have came started exploring our world's eastern culture. Starting with Gary Snyder and his translations of Han Shan's Cold Mountain Poems to many more crazy lunatics of old. Growing up deep in the west it has been an awakening experience just toying with Eastern philosophies and resonating truths already within me that through self realization have become apparent.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hitchhiked up past the Arctic Circle and deep into the Brooks Range
Climbed 6 Fourteeners in Colorado
Hitched 40 days straight, From Alaska to Washington state across most of the western states and eventually across the plains to Illinois
I've heard the flowers a-growing in the rubble of the towers, I've heard leaders quit their lyin', I've heard babies quit their cryin', I've heard soldiers quit their dyin', one and all
