About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Adding another continent to my list of travels

ABOUT ME

I thoroughly enjoy experiencing new things, meeting new people, and hearing about new perspectives. I love going out on adventures, but I also enjoy spending time with people one on one, in conversation about everything or nothing at all. I enjoy movies of (almost) every kind, and attend concerts whenever I can.

However, I also enjoy spending some quality time alone with a book or with NPR on occasion.

PHILOSOPHY

Exercise moderation in absolutely all things. No exceptions.. Ever...

Also, maximize utility.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am attempting to put together my first Couch Surfing experience as a solo trip this summer. I also plan on starting to host after this summer, when I move back into my own place after spending the summer at my parents'.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I once pseudo-hosted a pair of surfers along with my girlfriend (who is an avid Couch Surfer) at her house in Moorhead, MN. Does that count? They were a wonderful French couple, and it was a really great time!

Interests

I love travelling both in urban settings and in the outdoors, books, movies, music, sports and nearly anything geeky.

If you know of any good local pubs, cafés, or bars with good live music where I'm traveling, you should let me know. I'll put down your cover charge, or get you a drink if you wanna come with!

While I can enjoy watching the occasional football or hockey game, I find that sports are most fun when I participate, and have played soccer, football, volleyball, basketball, squash and rugby as well as long distance running. If you happen to be playing a pick up game of anything at all while I am in your town, I would love to join (though if it happens to be basketball, I WILL make my team lose).

Music, Movies, and Books

Go to movies: Forrest Gump, Snatch, Resident Evil series, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, A Beautiful Mind, Fight Club, American Psycho, The Machinist, 28 Days Later, and the Batman Movies (new and old)

Music: Nearly anything, ranging from indie hip hop, pop and electronic music, to indie rock, metal and hardcore. I also enjoy the occasional jazz.

Books: Too many to name, though Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game" and its pre- and sequels are pretty great. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy defined my childhood, though the movie was stupid. I also enjoy most books by Tolkien, Hunter S. Thompson, Stephen King and John Grisham.

As for philosophy, my favorite authors are usually existentialists or utilitarians such as Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, and John Stewart Mill. I also enjoy me some Plato and Hobbes. I have a love-hate relationship with Richard Rorty and Wittgenstein.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing thing I have seen was Dead Horse Point, Utah, in the sunset minutes before a thunderstorm began. The vivid colors and the amazing view surpassed anything I have ever seen in my life, and I think it is a shame that this point so often gets left out by those more interested in seeing the Grand Canyon.

Teach, Learn, Share

I mostly know useless trivia, but I would love to make my best attempt at teaching you tidbits about wilderness/zombie apocalypse survival that I might remember from my Army days/make up on the spot. I can probably also recommend a book or two to get you started with Philosophy, teach you a few interesting things about American Constitutional law, and teach you some Norwegian if you are interested.

I would love to learn about anything you might be interested in teaching me about!
