About Me

I'm just a Canadian gal with dreams and aspirations, trying to do her bit to make the world a better place. I'm a bit of a newbie to the formal couchsurfing platform, but if you need to know anything, ASK! I quit my engineering job back home, sold all my possessions and left the cold comfort of Canada to pursue a Masters degree in Sustainable Development in Germany and Austria. Now I work as a Sustainability Manager keeping in mind that solutions should be for people, planet and prosperity.

I'm from Calgary, Canada, which I did adore growing up in. Warm summers with long sunny days - love camping, BBQs with friends, outdoor soccer/football, hiking, picnics in the park. Cold winters (up to minus 40 degrees Celsius) learning how to shred the nearby Rocky Mountains, snowshoeing, sledding, ice skating, watching hockey. Came back to the city for a couple years after completing my University degree in Civil Engineering with Environmental Option, but tired of the corporate culture and excessive consumerism that seemed to shroud the entire city.

I went to school in Edmonton, Canada which was and is even colder than Calgary if you can believe it! I spent most of my time staying warm, playing rugby for the University team and enjoying the local arts, pub and food scene.

I've also lived in Leipzig, Germany and in Graz, Austria for my studies.

Now I live in Stuttgart, Germany, which is surprisingly OK! Close to the Swabian Alps, Lake Constance and the Black forest to get my fill of nature, vineyards surround the city, and I've picked up a new hobby as an actress, choir and band member :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I enjoy meeting people who have a more long term perspective of a place. Sure, friends who have passed through a city can recommend a museum or the #2 rated restaurant on trip adviser, but it lacks the authenticity and realness I'm after. Meeting and connecting with others that have a different upbringing, identity, ambitions and defining moments in their lives is truly an apex of interest and fulfillment for me.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm all about that music. Recently attempting to teach myself guitar. I enjoy watching live music and cannot make it through a day without listening to some sort of jam!

I don't read half as much as I would like - balancing university readings or motivating yourself to read after a long days work reading reports can be challenging. Although some of my favourite or most recent reads: Call me by your name, What I was doing while you were breeding, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, The Giver, Blindness, The Hatchet, The End of Growth, Dark Matter, Station 11, 1984, Fahrenheit 451, Contact (Carl Sagan), The Oryx and Crake -MaddAdam Series (Margaret Atwood), anything Margaret Atwood, A Thousand Splendid Suns, I Am Legend

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you the 10 chords I know on the guitar, but am willing to learn a song from you! And I like to sing, not an expert or anything but I can carry a tune.

I can draw a speed portrait of you, or write a bad rap about a topic!

I can cook, but honestly sometimes I feel a bit judged if the person claims to be a culinary genius. I'm just doing my best!

I am a jack of all trades, but a master of none! I like to dabble in everything and try things at least once.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I think this is the same as above? But I consider myself funny, albeit sarcastic, and I can usually get on with anyone! Your roommate, significant other, pets... :)

I can recant stories about my past job, my current studies, past and present travels, mull over deep conversations about meaning and consciousness while in the same breath debate something silly like the point of a belly button.
