Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To have a lady adventure in Brooklyn.
ABOUT ME
I need a hopeful adventure filled with positive people and experiences to keep me busy. My husband is deploying to Afghanistan for 9 months. I don't want to stay in a half-empty house and think about war. And my best friend is moving to Brooklyn to work for an Edible Schoolyard program. It seems like the right time for a change of scenery.
PHILOSOPHY
I consider myself a saver, an activist for intentional, graceful ways of life. As often as possible, I aim to be amazed.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've lived in a CouchSurfing household in Savannah--and am used to the comings and goings and great dinner parties with interesting people that arrive at the doorstep. Many of my friends are CouchSurfer hosts or travelers. It's a community and a life ethic I'm familiar with and enthusiastic about.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Never officially CouchSurfed before--though I have run in similar circles. I'm Southern (no honey drawl accent though, sorry) and polite and make a fantastic guest.
Interests
Food (from seed to plate). Food traditions. Food stories. Food production. Food producers. Food activists. Grandmothers. Great Grandmothers. Aunts. Great Aunts. Fairy Godmothers (or Godfathers). Strong, smart women who think of themselves as Queens. Curious children. Libraries. Gardens. Breakfast!

Music, Movies, and Books
Books first and always. Annie Dillard. Wendell Berry (if you read Hannah Coulter and wept I'm sure we'd get along). So, so many really.
Love live music and dancing. Born in New Orleans. Folk music. Brass bands. Jazz (not ambient, frenetic jazz though). Gypsy music. Music with washboards. Fiddling. In general hopeful, happy music, unless it's the blues--which I love too.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
My husband has two children from a previous marriage, and on the nights they stay with us we read in bed together, all four of us, and right before bed we have a snuggling ritual. Eli and I get on the outside and squeeze the girls between us. They giggle and squirm and say I love you. Sometimes we pretend we're pressing ourselves into a family panini. Sometimes we roll ourselves up in the sheets and become a family burrito. It's not hiking Everest or riding a camel, but it always takes my breath away to be happy together like that.
Teach, Learn, Share
Can teach and/or be helpful in the garden, kitchen or dining room. Pretty fantastic with children--step-mom to a 7 and 9 year old. Certified beekeeper. Chicken expert--from the yard to the frying pan. DIY interior renovation skills.
Have decent wine knowledge, but want to learn more. Want to cook and eat with you, or perhaps go to the farmers' market together. Teach me new recipes, new dance moves.
