About Me

I'm a native Californian from San Francisco, building out a new life by beautiful Hermosa beach after following a winding life path through several cities and countries. I've lived at times in San Diego, Portland, New York City, Copenhagen (Denmark), Merida (Mexico) and Medellin (Colombia).

I like to go off the beaten path. I'm an easygoing and adaptable guy, always looking for new experiences, new ideas and creative people.

I'm happy when I'm running or biking from place to place and I see the sign of a good day as utter exhaustion. I'm attracted to learning in any form, and my friends tend to roll their eyes at how quickly I'll fall into conversation with strangers.

I've traveled a fair bit over the years, though I'm just as happy finding previously undiscovered experiences near home as I am finding them on the other side of the world. Just as with my travels, I tend to enjoy being with an eclectic mix of people from very local to very foreign.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing offers a chance to shake up my routines and make some new experiences with new people.

Interests

Playing Outside (running, hiking, biking, climbing, Ultimate frisbee, soccer, skiing, you name it);
Musical Instruments (I look for people that can help me learn guitar);
Politics and Policy;
Investing in people and community;
and Generally being kind of a nerd

I can geek out on almost anything ... I particularly like learning about the way things work, which means I absolutely can't get enough of the Radio Lab podcast on NPR.

I like making cocktails and cookies, and I love hosting do-it-yourself sushi parties.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

1a. When my father died, my brother and I decided to arrange a bicycle tour starting from his memorial. We spent 9 days on the road, leaving from Marin County, California (north of San Francisco) and arriving in Los Angeles 8 days later, after 550 miles (880 km). Best thing I've ever done.

1b. I've been to Burning Man, which was a life-changing experience that I can only properly describe in person. However, you can see my great accomplishment from the festival here (in which I solve a 40-foot Rubik's Cube, at the exact moment it's solved): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GC13nB_P7A

Teach, Learn, Share

I can take a person to a climbing gym and teach them the basics (including how to belay), I can give weeks worth of advice for visits to Colombia, San Francisco, Portland, or Copenhagen, I can show some basics on the guitar, and above all I can lead a pretty mean night at the karaoke bar.
