Overview
About Me
I was raised mostly on the East Coast of the US, though I'd spend my summers with my family in Israel. Most recently, I have been living in Wisconsin, where I am working on a PhD in quantitative ethnography.
In my spare time, I enjoy cooking [mostly vegetarian] foods for friends, practicing yoga, reading, playing and listening to music, and organizing and/or volunteering at events that my friends and greater community organize.
I would love to meet up and learn something about you!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've been on Couchsurfing for a while and have consistently found this community to be particularly open and welcoming. Beyond that, some of my most enduring friendships have been forged in the bonding fires of the Couchsurfing community.
Despite having had a hiatus in my travels and my ability to host for a couple of years, I'm beginning to travel again. I'm hoping to use Couchsurfing as a way to meet more friends, learn about new places and cultures, and understand different perspectives.
Interests
I like speaking different languages and struggling through ones I don’t really speak.
In my spare time, I play upright bass and I noodle around on the guitar. I practice Iyengar yoga, too.

Music, Movies, and Books
I find myself listening to a broad range of music, most often reflective of the musical styles I have personal experience playing or aspire to play one day. I enjoy straight-ahead jazz, vocal jazz, afro-cuban music, brazillian music, classical middle eastern music (in particular, Oum Kalthoum and Fairuz), tango, flamenco, and, on occasion, a bit of lounge music like Thievery Corporation.
As for books, I've found myself revisiting The Alchemist since the age of 13 and finding something new from it on every new read.
Recently, I’ve been on a Philip K Dick reading spree
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I was incredibly lucky in that my 84-year old grandmother (at the time) wanted to go to Peru with me, my brother, and my cousin. While amazing on its own, it was amazing to have the opportunity to climb Machu Picchu with my grandmother :)

I am fairly capable in the kitchen and would love to cook some food for you, if you'll allow me :)
