Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I did a 50-state, 50-week road trip around the country, couchsurfing the entire way! I never would have had half the experiences I ended up with if it wasn't for couchsurfing and the ability to just sit in on peoples' lives for a day!

Anyone that wants to come visit Alaska, look me up! If I'm home I'd love to host you and take you hiking or kayaking! If I'm not in the Last Frontier, you might still be able to stay with my parents, or at the very least I can make some suggestions of places to go (but come on, it's Alaska - anywhere you go is gorgeous)!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Because of couchsurfing I now know at least one person in every state that you see here in red.

visited 50 states (100%)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I participated in the United States Senate Youth Program as a high school senior in March 2011. Got to go to Washington D.C. for a week and meet the President of the United States, a Supreme Court judge, and many other elected/nominated officials. More importantly, I got to spend a week with 103 other young people who are leaders of our generation. The sheer brainpower and desire to do good in our group was amazing - we joked that if the Constitution would be written today, we would be the signatures on it! USSYP was an experience I will never forget, and politics and democracy is something that will remain important to me forever.

In summer of 2011, I spontaneously decided to go on a 3-week trip between Virginia and Vermont before starting my first job. Lot's of good times and memories... In particular, was staying with the family of a friend in Long Beach, New York. One night, we went to the beach right outside his house. The stars were shining, the moon was rising, the sun was going down, the waves were crashing, the boats were moving slowly in the distance, and we reflected on how fortunate we were to be able to experience these things at such a young age. This is why I'm in interested in public service - allowing others to experience what I myself have been privileged to already see.
