About Me

Hey I'm Arne, I'm a 22-year old Psychology student from Bremen, Germany.
I grew up near Hamburg with my mother and sister, but moved when I finished German high school.

I'm fluent in German and English, and I'm learning Swedish at the moment - I've traveled to Sweden each year since I was born, and I enjoy the country a lot.

I study at Jacobs university, an international school and I've been living with over 100 different nationalities on campus. My roommate this year is Pakistani, and next year I'll be moving in with a Korean.

More by chance I grew fairly close to a lot of Koreans, which is why I'm visiting their country this summer - I want to learn more about their culture and country, as well as meet a few of them back home.

Personally I want to discover the country flaneur-style, rather than full touristy. I'd much rather see a cafe and observe the surroundings rather than go to the Seoul Tower after visiting Lotte park for 3 hours and then having to travel to the next place... I would much rather take my time and let not be a slave to time constrictions, which is why I'm staying 3,5 weeks.

I also want to see Busan for a few days, so far I have planned on staying there from the 23rd till the 25th or 26th. A friend of mine is from there and she told me I need to try the sea food there.

I'm an avid chess player, if you want to play against me I won't back down. I also play the piano and create electronic music, but I lack true skill in both - but that doesn't mean I don't have fun experimenting.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask - I'm happy to answer!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to experience an actual household and the attitudes of people living in Korea. I have some Korean friends and I want to learn about their country by experiencing the real parts, not the touristy side.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
Different artists and bands rather than a set genre. To name a few, I listen to German Comedy Rap, Bob Dylan, Electronic Music, Ravi Shankar & Phillip Glass...
And I'm open to listen to new things as well! I'm clueless about K-Pop to be honest, but if you want to show me that world, I'll gladly check it out!

Movies:
I rarely watch movies, but here too I have different styles I enjoy:
Scott Pilgrim Against The World, Snatch, Ten Things I Hate About You, Inception, Lilo & Stitch - Show me your favorite movie!

Books:
There are a few books I personally enjoy, but my library is small.
Non-Fiction my favorite book is: Antifragile
Fiction is would be: The Name of the Wind

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have seen the starry sky with no light pollution, where there was no empty space anymore. That moment made me realize how small we are in the universe, but that this gives us the liberty to pursue what we want to do.

I also jumped from a 19m cliff into a lake in Sweden, which was a really cool adrenaline rush.

You pick.

Teach, Learn, Share

I speak German and English fluently, so anyone who wants to practice that with me is highly welcome to do so!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am not a good cook, but I can certainly try - But Germany is not known for its terrific dishes.
I am bringing German beer and sweets though! I heard Korean beer is okay, so if you want to try German beer, I'll gladly give you one! And if you give me Soju in return I will be a happy man.
