About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Resettling in Berlin

ABOUT ME

I'll try to define myself through the things that I like: talking with and listening to friends, listening to compelling music, making my own music (not necessarily as compelling), the calmness of watching birds, being moved by good movies or books, taking pictures for myself or for others, the charm of foreign countries and their people, my scientific work (at least most the time), being outside, the ocean, cooking and eating new or well-rehearsed food, being inspired ;-)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Lots of bands at the pop/folk/electronic interface (The Radio Dept., The Notwist, Au Revoir Simone) but also straighter folk/pop (Damien Rice, Niels Frevert, Bob Dylan) or more complex electronic music with Jazz-influences (The Field, right now Moritz von Oswald Trio) plus currently much modern classics/home listening things (Max Richter, Niels Frahm, Yasushi Yoshida).
Books: Recently impressed by Pynchon's 'Against the day', also by Ryu (not Haruki) Murakami's work. I've also been seriously getting into graphic novels, especially Adrian Tomine.
Movies: My very recent movie choices were less than good, but movies that struck me in the last years include 'Elegy', 'Waltz with Bashir', 'I'm not there', or 'The Bubble'.

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach you about Evolutionary Biology (which is what I do for a living). I also like talking endlessly about music and am always eager to get to know new genres, bands, and musicians. Slightly related to Evolutionary Biology, I'm also very interested in Philosophy and History of Science, so I'd like to learn more about that as well. Oh, and I can cook Thai (and also some German) food and especially like baking, so I could maybe teach you about that...
