About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to break into the creative marketing/advertising/corporate fundraising industry

ABOUT ME

I have recently re located to Wellington and have fallen in love with the cute city that never bats an eyelash at what you wear while walking down the street.
I am currently working on a fundraising project with the Wellington Night Shelter that will take part JUNE 20. I am also interested in opening a small scale catering company sometime in November; if anyone has any information regarding Food and Safety Qualifications, I would be very interested to hear from you. I have just found accomodation in Wellington but have not yet made an agreement with my flatmate as to whether we will be able to accomodate hosting requests. I am a diligent, organised and hard working team member currently scoping the job market for a prospective career in creative marketing/advertising/corporate fundraising. Although without much experience or education in these fields I have been responsible for organising many planned successful social events. I have excellent time management skills, excellent communication skills, compulsive disorder for attention to detail. I can multi-task, have an up beat personality, flamboyant sense of humor...and I'm terribly modest.

PHILOSOPHY

"If you know what you want,
then you go,
and you find it,
and you get it".

Interests

I like to take 3 day or more hikes. I enjoy SCUBA diving. I'd like to shear a sheep once in my life. I'd like to become a better rock climber. I will try anything twice. I love tasting exotic foods from different cultures as long as I know what I'm eating is not endangered. I prefer a tent or a dorm room to a five star hotel. Live music and performance venues always catch my atttention. I'm interested in the conservation of natural resources and I like to fish. I'd really like to learn sign language one day.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Worked the VIP tents at Woodstock '99 in Rome, New York. Bungee jumped in Chaing Mai. Worked on cruise ships for over 4 years (thus being bitten by the travel bug). Performed as a background dancer for a Tina Turner impersonator. Voted "2005 Best Waiter" by the Toronto Serial Diners Association (funny story). Rode my bike from Toronto to Montreal in 6 days (660 km) with 200 other riders. Watched the street performers on Las Ramblas in Barcelona. Smelled the burn of poverty in Senegal. Feasted Brazillian BBQ in Brazil. Listened to the cicadas of Tiger Leaping Gorge in the summer night. Slept with hilltribes in Northern Thailand (you know what I mean... no funny business). I've been very fortunate in my life to have such wonderful opportunities including coming from a country with clean drinking water.

Teach, Learn, Share

Want to teach English in China? Check out www.davesesl.com Rule of thumb is not to go through recruiters/agencies. Find your job once you are in China directly with a school or language center. Find out where the local expat bars are and don't be shy to talk to other English teachers for their opinions of where to work. Stray away from the "chain" schools who will expect you to work more hours for the same pay you would get anywhere else doing half the work. Find out if there are any local expat websites in the city you are applying. "My City", Hangzhou has 2 great ones: www.hangzhouexpat.com and www.morehangzhou.com Many schools will advertise teaching positions to the foreign community on these sites. Never work for less than 100 rmb/hour. Good Luck!
