Hello, This is Arpita, a Software Engineer who spend the better part of the last 12 years working in Bangalore, India. During my job, I used to take 2-3 weeks of paid leave every year to visit countries nearby in Asia. I managed to visit places in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Bangladesh, etc. like that. But that always kept me held up since my plans could not be flexible enough and I was always limited by my schedule.

So in 2017, I quit my job and went on to travel for nine months. In the first three months, I visited more than 20+ countries in Europe and then traveled Eastwards towards Asia overland. In the next three months, I backpacked overland to Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and many more Central Asian countries. This made me understand how cultures and histories transformed the world. Strangers welcomed me to their homes and I got to spend a lot of time traveling slowly. During the remaining time, I traveled in my own country, understanding culture and meeting people from states far away from my own home.

Again in Dec'2022, I quit my job again and started my year-long journey to travel across Central and South American countries. I have traveled across many countries in Central Americas - Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua; then in South America - Colombia, Peru, Bolivia. Everywhere I was mesmerized by the amazing culture and friendliness of the people.

I have been to 65 countries by now and would want to visit 100 countries in my lifetime hopefully.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I would love to meet people from different parts of the world so that I get to know their culture and daily life, and also share some of my travel stories and make friends in the process!

Also its always better to know about a city from a local that just seeing a checklist of places.

Music - always up for listening to local music of a country, otherwise, I prefer Bollywood music (especially dance tunes)

Books - not much of a book person, but really good at reading blogs to research out travel information.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I like to do things independently as much as possible, be it hiking or taking local transport buses as much as possible.

Spend 3 months in Peru hiking several high altitude treks like Huayhuash trek (8 days), Ausangate trek (5 days) and many many day hikes.

Summited a 6088 meters mountain Huyana Potosi in Bolivia.

Most recently I traveled across six countries of Central America (Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua) taking public transport mostly, even while crossing borders, and managed to do it even with my very limited knowledge of Spanish.
