About Me

Hello, I’m Arron from a coastal town in the north-west of England called Blackpool. I have just recently finished (2018) cycling solo across the United States coast to coast. The journey took me four months covering 3,800 miles.

So first, who am I?

Well, this is always a hard thing to explain to would-be hosts but I will be as honest as possible. As a guest, I am very clean, organized, and clean...did I say that already? I don’t smoke, I drink only on social occasions and most importantly I always have the utmost respect for any host, their family, and home that is willing to open themselves up to myself.

Personally, I don’t snore (I'm not even sure you suppose to put these things down but we're going with it!), I have all my own toiletries (so no need to hide the expensive conditioner), I have a northern English accent and I also like to keep fit, eat well, like a good laugh and love to meet new people. I have always traveled alone and will go anywhere no matter what dangers I could face. When traveling, I’m in bed early and up for 8 am; that is unless you have a few good bars you would like to show me!

When I'm not travelling, I am an ambassador for the excellent charity Cancer Research UK, the worlds largest cancer research charity.

As I understand with CouchSurfing, the policy is that of a service to connect travellers with hosts for a free stay, but I am more than happy to help in any way I can to earn my keep. Whether that be any type of cooking, you name it I can’t cook it, but I will give it a try! Nah I can cook some pretty decent meals to be fair. I will also do manual work (I am a skilled tradesman; flooring, woodwork + any manual labour task) so feel free to give me some order’s; Ideally something small but if it is a full house renovation I will need plenty of coffee! Finally, I don’t mind paying a small fee or getting a few beers for you by offering me a place to stay. I will do anything to earn my keep...as I was taught that nothing in life comes for free!

I would say I am also good company (well, my mum says I am) and I love to get to know the hosts and their families, lifestyle, their interests as well as any local town knowledge as this is exactly what this trip is all about! I am also happy to just keep myself to myself if you require. Sleeping arrangements; well that can be anything as I am very laid back just as long as I can get a wash at some point, then I am happy and extremely grateful for any space.

So if you have made it this far (thanks for hanging in there!) I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my CouchSurfing profile and hopefully we meet very soon.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music

This all depends on the day, the situation, how I am feeling etc but my go to music most of the time is something ambient; big cinematic scores, slow-paced, fast-paced, really gets me into dreamland. I think music can portray so much emotion just by how it's played and you don't always need vocals in a track to get the message across. As I make films, they say 50% of it is what you see and the other 50% of it is what you hear; this couldn't be truer. Just listen to 'All is Not Lost' by Tony Anderson for a better understanding...

I also like Indie Folk (Mumford and Sons) or anything with a piano and beautiful vocals (London Grammer)

Movies;

Adventure/Real Life (see the pattern here!) The Road, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Only the Brave etc anything that gets the imagination going.

Books;

I love a good read and I don't leave without my Kindle. My most frequented books are usually psychology books, more on how the brain works in the modern world and the science of non-verbal body language. Fact; Did you know that around 85-92% of all communications between human beings is non-verbal! Our mind is amazing and we have not even scraped the surface on what our abilities truly are. Joe Nevaro - What everybody is saying, The Chimp Paradox plus so many others are all up there with my most read.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think this would have to be buying a van, then taking 8 months to convert it then to set off, into the unknown to eventually cover 7,500km through 17 beautiful European countries.
