Coming from Baltics, Latvia. Grew up in a family that loves nature and all sorts of outdoor activities. Hence, my love for discovery and adventure. Being interested in all ways of life, I have always been open to new experiences and ideas.

Obtained Master of Laws at the University of Erasmus (Rotterdam). Connected my career with marine insurance. Dealing daily with cargo and logistics matters.

If I had a chance to change my career path, I would specialize in linguistics, languages and social anthropology. Always found the complexity of the human nature fascinating.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Traveling teaches you something that school doesn't. Major part of it is being exposed to lifestyles and views completely different to those back at home. Staying at hotel separates you from an authentic cultural experience as you almost do not interact with locals.

That is why I always preferred to stay at hostels or AirBnB's. Up until recent time, AirBnB allowed you to stay at a local's house. Share stories with them and see their customs. Currently, most of the listings come from professional companies, buying properties with a sole purpose to rent them out through AirBnb. That way feeling of community that existed before is disrupted.

It feels that Couchsurfing exists to connect like-minded travelers and that is why it attracts me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

One of my hobbies includes DIY (Do it yourself). Can be anything really, but one I am most proud about is cooking. During my time traveling, I have collected recipes from different cultures. I would gladly cook for my host a dish of their selection and share the meal with them.
