ABOUT ME

I grew up in a cozy little corner of the world and I feel that I am just now getting to know what else is out there. My family hosted two exchange students during my high school years from Brazil and Germany, respectively. I grew to appreciate the joys of hospitality between strangers and the the incredible opportunity a little bit of trust and openness can afford. I did a stint in Vienna as a Junior Year Abroad student. My experiences there led me to apply for a Fulbright ETA position in The Republic of Georgia. I lived and worked in a town called Akhaltsikhe for one year and then promptly moved to Taipei, Taiwan. Now I'm living and teaching outside Shanghai, China. Looking forward to seeing more of Asia!

PHILOSOPHY

I was raised Catholic but am taking no official religious stance of late. I am a bit of a skeptic, but most often this manifests itself as a form of curiosity and questioning that I hope never to lose. There's nothing I enjoy more than a good debate and there's no difference of opinion that isn't worth discussing.

I've made use of Cs while traveling. Always enjoy meeting new Cs people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have used CS to meet some great people in the Balkans and have attended meetings in Vienna that also led to interesting discoveries/relationships. I have also been hosted in Poland and in Israel. I hope to serve as a host very soon.

I couldn't begin to list them here. I'll read whatever I can get my hands on. Lately I've been on a classic futuristic science fiction kick: A Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, 1984 (Update: For Whom the Bell Tolls, One Hundred Years of Solitude, All the Kings Men, and the list will forever build) . I had to read a lot of historical nonfiction in school but I try to keep my palate wide.

I am a bit of a movie buff with a special affinity for the Marx Brothers. Outside of those guys I have no specific genre or era. I am a fan of Monty Python, Woody Allen, and stuff in that general range. The classics have a special place in my heart. Still need more exposure to foreign films. Movies are a bit of an addiction.

Music. Again, I just go with what feels good. Lately it's been Ben Folds, Flight of the Conchords, Counting Crows, Lisa Hannigan, The Avett Brothers, and Paul Simon.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

The amazing things for me are the little things. Sitting in a cafe with a glass of chai and a book or walking down a trail in complete silence or placing your hand on something ancient or strolling through a city at night with a friend. Those are feelings you don't understand till you travel.
