When I was a kid I was quite the explorer, spending summer days in the garden, drawing maps of un-explored islands, climbing tall trees, and creating my own wild adventures. I remember that my Mom would always say to me that I would end up living in a tree one day. I think she was right! Well, not exactly living in a tree..but certainly living in with a feeling of freedom, exploring life, discovering new worlds, and meeting new people as I go along.

My journey as a traveler began in 2011 after I finished my studies and spent a year teaching Art in London. I quickly realized that I didn't want to settle down into a career or lock myself away in a room making paintings for months at a time. I needed a change; A new adventure where I could explore life, connect with the world, and learn about life from the people that I meet along the way. So I sold most things I owned, packed my bag, and booked the next cheapest flight. Within a month I arrived in Germany with nothing but my backpack and a few hundred euros in my pocket..and, well, almost five years later and I've experienced countries that I never thought I would and i'm about to spend a year in Australia which is way up there on my Bucket List!

Since beginning a life of travel I have visited many parts of Europe (and Couchsurfed from time-to-time), taught art for a year in Germany, hitch-hiked most of the Spanish coast, traveled parts of Scandinavia, and had some great day-to-day experiences that I never would have expected. Most recently I spent three months in Cambodia and Thailand where I was backpacking, volunteering, and living with families in villages.

Where ever I go, a lot of my travelling life is about discovery. I love to find new places where I am amongst unfamiliar environments such as nature and different landscapes. This, along with the people I meet along the way gives me a sense of how I connect with my surroundings and finding my place in the world. So now I try to continue to travel and recently I started a travel blog and a YouTube Channel (The Hunter Traveller) to share my experiences, travel tips, and inspire others to see the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to Couchsurf! If I visit country then connecting with hosts via Couchsurfing is a great way to get to know the culture and learn about day to day living. It's important to me to feel like I am not only travelling, but also living and experiencing the day-to-day life of the places that I visit. So to live like a local and mix with the locals add's a really valuable experience to my journey.

I first couchsurfed when I arrived in Hamburg in 2011 (i had to create a new profile since). It was a warehouse-commune sort of place, and in the end I had stayed for around four months because I found a teaching job, and also because living there was a good experience of being around alternative and open-minded people with different views on life and ways of living. I learnt the fun and amazing skill of 'Dumpster-Diving', and finding more resourceful and practical ideas towards life and living.

I've also done some last minute Couchsurfing. I surfed a couch in Frankfurt with some students who were hungry to travel but couldn't so much because of their studies. And with a cool South American guy in Oslo..where i was greeted by an apartment full of his crazy friends singing Norwegian Kareoke. Great fun! :)

Otherwise..I sometimes get lucky and end-up being invited back to crash on people's couches who have picked me up late at night during my hitch-hiking adventures. It might sound a little weird and dangerous..but really it's not. I've met some fantastic people while hitch-hiking and traveling around, with some amazing pasts and stories to share.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm learning something new everyday, so I guess there is a lot to share! I make art, spend most of my life travelling, enjoy hanging out, and have some fun stories to share from my journey. I also love food!..cooking it and eating it. So i'd be happy to offer something.

I am open to learning anything! In the past Couchsurfing hosts have attempted at teaching me to juggle, sing in Norwegian, and play guitar. All of which I failed to pick up. But it was funny to see me try I'm sure!
