About Me
Hello everyone, it's Hey everyone, it's Arup Ratan Roy here, ready to share a bit about my love for exploring different cultures and cuisines alongside my botanical adventures.
As a botanist deeply enamored with the natural world, I've had the incredible opportunity to traverse the stunning landscapes of the Himalayas in places like Himachal Pradesh, Darjeeling, and Sikkim. But my journey doesn't stop there! I've also got a serious case of wanderlust when it comes to experiencing the rich tapestry of human culture.
Meeting new people and immersing myself in diverse cultures is where I find my inspiration. There's something truly magical about connecting with folks from different backgrounds, learning about their traditions, and sharing stories over a delicious meal.
For me, life is all about embracing the unknown, whether it's trekking through a dense forest or trying a dish I've never heard of before. Every experience, every encounter, adds another layer to the vibrant tapestry of my life.
So, here's to new adventures, new flavors, and the endless possibilities that await around every corner. Let's keep exploring, one step at a time! 🌿🍽️✈️
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
As an avid traveler and enthusiast of cultural immersion, I am drawn to Couchsurfing as a means to explore destinations from a local perspective. Rather than opting for traditional accommodations, Couchsurfing allows me to connect with locals who offer more than just a place to stay—they offer a gateway to authentic cultural experiences.
Moreover, Couchsurfing aligns with my values of openness, curiosity, and a desire for genuine human connection. It allows me to step outside my comfort zone, challenge my preconceptions, and embrace the richness of diversity that our world has to offer.
In essence, Couchsurfing isn't just a way to save money on accommodation—it's a philosophy, a community, and a mindset that enhances the way I travel, allowing me to truly immerse myself in the places I visit and the people I meet.

Music, Movies, and Books
My taste in music is quite eclectic, reflecting my appreciation for a wide range of genres and artists. I find myself drawn to the heartfelt storytelling of country music legends like John Denver, Bob Dylan, and Bryan Adams, whose songs resonate with me on a deeply emotional level. On the other hand, I also enjoy the energetic rhythms and catchy melodies of pop music, with artists like Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Maroon 5, and Enrique Iglesias dominating my playlist. From the soulful tunes of Akon and Blue to the introspective soundscapes of OneRepublic and the romantic ballads of Zayn Malik, my music taste knows no bounds. I also have a soft spot for Bollywood music, with the soul-stirring vocals of Arijit Singh, Shreya Ghosal, Atif Aslam, and A.R. Rahman adding a touch of cultural diversity to my playlist. Overall, my music taste is a reflection of my diverse interests and moods, with each song offering a unique journey of emotion and expression.
When it comes to movies, I'm drawn to those that immerse me in the awe-inspiring beauty of nature and the untamed wilderness, but I also have a penchant for adventurous journeys that explore different cultures and landscapes. Films like "Avatar," with its lush, otherworldly landscapes, and "The Revenant," with its raw portrayal of survival amidst the rugged beauty of the American frontier, captivate me with their stunning visuals and visceral storytelling. "Sanctum" takes me deep into the heart of unexplored caves, while "Hidalgo" transports me across vast deserts and rugged terrains on an epic adventure. And then there's "EuroTrip," a hilarious romp through Europe that adds a touch of comedy and lightheartedness to my movie collection. These nature-related movies, along with the adventurous spirit of "EuroTrip," not only entertain me but also inspire a sense of wonder and reverence for the natural world while satisfying my curiosity for exploration and cultural immersion.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Paragliding over Gangtok, Sikkim, during December 2020 was a magical experience. Despite the chilly weather, the clear skies and crisp air provided perfect conditions for soaring through the breathtaking landscapes. As I glided gracefully above the snow-capped mountains and verdant valleys, I was filled with a sense of awe and wonder. It was a thrilling adventure that allowed me to embrace the beauty of nature in its winter splendor, leaving me with cherished memories of a truly unforgettable experience.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Hey there! If you're planning to visit and need a place to stay, I'd be happy to host you! Just a heads up, we've got limited space, with only one room available for travelers, so I can only accommodate a maximum of two people at a time. To make sure everything goes smoothly, it would be great if you could let me know at least two weeks in advance before your visit. That way, I can make sure to have everything ready for your stay. Looking forward to welcoming you and making your visit as comfortable as possible!
