About Me

Hi there, I'm Ary Vinicio, born in Porto Alegre, Brazil but living in Melbourne, Australia.
I'm a friendly and open minded person, enthusiastic to try new things and to share experiences/stories.
I really appreciate the outdoors. Whenever I can I get out there and go for a hiking or a cycling in nature or just a walk in the park during sunset.
I also enjoy good music and a good boggie with friends! Indie, techno, soul music, old disco songs and some rock are my favourites but I also like listening to Brazilian popular music (MPB old&new) and Funk or Colombian hits on Spotify can cheer me up very quickly.

I believe that by sharing our experiences, stories and being encouraged to speak out is extremely healing for ourselves, for the ones listening and relating to and it is such a great way to connect with people from all around the world. Even better when done over a cup of tea or a beer!
#flexible 😄

I've been living in Melbourne(Australia) for the last 5 years but I'm originally from Brazil. In Melbourne I live with my girlfriend Noni, my housemate Luke and our old rescued dog Sox.

I started backpacking when I was 18, I went to Australia and traveled the coast and throughout the outback (which made me fall in love with this country even more). Then came months of exploring Central America with friends.
Now I have just got back from 5 months solo travelling in India, which was such an amazing time and I'm heading towards Europe now and planning to spend about 3 months there.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - As I mentioned before I love disco music, MPB and soul music too.

Movies - I enjoy drama movies, short films about country and their people, silly but very funny comedies like the ones from Taika Watiti and the good old Mr. Ben who I used to watch as a kid and was unsure if the telly sound was broken.
Recently I have been enjoying Japanese cinema as well and looking for recommendations.

Books - I have developed a taste for biographies and memoirs not long ago and I'm invested on them at the moment.
But I also like adventure fictions like the ones from Paulo Coelho.
My one to go book when I just have 20 minutes is the Collection of Short Stories from Helen Garner - she is a brilliant Australian writer and the way she tells a story and engages you with it is amazing.
I'm a fan of the short and thoughtful books written by Lama Yesh and Lama Zopa Rinpoche - the science and philosophy of meditation is something that interests me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiked the Overland Tasmania track.
Priceless experience, beautiful landscapes that changed everyday of the hike, many wild animals to see including cute echidna, birds and wallabies and scary but fascinating snakes!

Teach, Learn, Share

Share experiences, stories, local information and history. Willing to learn about your own place, culture, people and language & and I'm keen to share what I know.
More than happy to catch up to practice English, Spanish, Portuguese or my broken Italian. ( In November 5th I start a french language course in Montpellier and would be keen to do a bit of language exchange catch ups!)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share stories, language exchange, travel advice, I'm happy to give a hand around to organise your place, I'm an okay handy man and very good at hanging pictures on the wall.

I enjoy cooking and happy to make us a vegetarian meal and share some good recipes too.
I'm a track and road cyclist and can share some bicycle repair skills with you; I'm good with computers too...
Basically I'm willing to help with whatever I can!
