About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Go places and learn stuff.
ABOUT ME
I'm a grad student from the state of Maine. Currently, I'm at the University of St Andrews working towards a PhD in philosophy. I've got a great sense of humor and some good stories, and love exploring, food, and conversation.
PHILOSOPHY
That when reasoning about something, one should slow down and think things through as carefully, thoroughly, and patiently as possible, rather than charging haphazardly through a chain of tenuous associations in order to brow-beat others with tired old dogmatisms. My more specific views are in a constant roil of revision, an inevitable byproduct of my chosen course of study.
That sounded pretentious. I'm not, promise.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've never hosted anyone, mostly because I did my undergraduate degree in the rural state of Maine, where nobody ever visits, and was in a dorm room and thus didn't have a couch available. Now I've got a flat, and and looking forward to hosting people.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I stayed for two nights with Stelios in Crete, which was great!
Interests
I absolutely adore philosophy, which I hope to teach one day. Mathematics is a big interest of mine as well, especially mathematical logic. I'm interested in Buddhism, meditation, and learning about different religions. I spent a great deal of my time working on reading and writing philosophy papers, and wandering aimlessly around town, both of which are great fun.

Music, Movies, and Books
Besides my philosophy books, I love Japanese poetry, religious texts (especially the Tao Te Ching), and light fantasy (especially the Abarat series).
My taste in movies is pretty typical (I like LOTR, Dark Knight, etc), although I have a particular fondness for anything made by Miyazaki.
For music, I like classical music, broadway musicals, Celtic Folk music, Rock, and many other things.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
1. Getting headbutted by a cow in the Swiss Alps.
2. Getting chased up Mount Iwaki by a poisonous hornet in Japan.
3. Visiting Prague, getting lost
4. Eating in Athens. Amazing.
Teach, Learn, Share
I know a fair amount about many different areas of philosophy, especially logic. I'm totally willing to teach a rather basic bare bones style of Buddhist meditation that I know about. I also learned a proof of different sizes of mathematical infinity that will blow your mind.
