About Me

Hello!

I'm a 25 year old guy from the East of England. In a nutshell I grew up on the English coast, graduated from The University of Manchester, I moved to Beijing to become a teacher for 3 years, and now I plan to Couchsurf and volunteer my way down the eastern side of Europe towards the Middle East. I've now begun this new adventure!

All my life I've been fascinated by other cultures and countries, and I love nothing more than eating new foods, hearing new music, meeting interesting people, just doing anything out of my cultural comfort zone. That's partly why I moved to China, to experience a whole new way of living. Whilst in China I was lucky enough to teach a whole range of subjects to children of different ages, whilst also travelling around most of South-East Asia.

I'm now finished in China and want to see more of Europe and the Middle East!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to mostly get away from the touristy side of solo travelling, I'd rather meet and spent time with local people.

My friends and I hosted some Couchsurfers in England and we've remained good friends, they still fly over from Europe to come to festivals with us! When Couchsurfing in China I became very close friends with my host and he asked me to be the best man at his Mongolian wedding. Of course this is a crazy extreme of Couchsurfing friendships but it shows how great this site can be!

I love any community that promotes travelling, trust (and saving money!)

Interests

Music music music! Books, bikes, cooking, animals, history, psychology, philosophy, education, vodka ;)

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: In Bruges, Withnail and I, What We Do In The Shadows (current favourites). I love most films really, anything that makes you laugh/think/cry.

Music: Anything guitar-driven is good by me! All time favourite bands The Clash, Del Amitri, Guns n' Roses, Tallest Man on Earth, Avenged Sevenfold, Ben Howard.

Books: ANYTHING. Including teenage girl books. Currently reading Irvine Welsh and Jonathan Shaw.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went scuba diving with sharks to overcome my mortal fear of them. Didn't work.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can play guitar/ukulele and similar instruments and am always eager to play music with other people! I enjoy cooking and can talk for hours about books and music. If anyone needs help with their English I have lots of teaching experience and would be happy to help.

I am a curious and interested person, always eager to learn new stuff. I like to have a laugh with the people I'm with and I am always always always up for sharing good stories!
