About Me

I travel to new countries every week through world cinema, and occasionally I travel for real.

** My partner and I are happy to host people occasionally. Please click on the 'My Home' tab and read through to see if we are a suitable match ""

Couchsurfing has come for me in phases, with long breaks in the middle, but each time one is a slightly different person, changed from before.

Still some things are the same: meeting people, seeing new places, letting these people and places enter the imagination and add to life's richness...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Each experience is a teacher of trust and reinforces the inherent goodness of people..

Interests

Too many... reading, writing, hiking, listening to folk music from anywhere in the world, the development of third world countries, India. Solitude and like-minded people, equally. Anything that needs you to slow down and ponder over to get the full beauty of.

Music, Movies, and Books

The films of Nuri Ceylan, which I have savoured over many years, have inspired a Turkey trip in 2023..

In recent times the cinema of Steve Mcqueen, Abbas Kiarostami, Kelly Reichardt are a few of many to have captured my imagination.

One film from my home country of India that I would recommend to anyone on a forum of open-minded and thoughtful people such as CS is the wonderful Ship of Theseus by Anand Gandhi, which came out in 2014. (A legally free-to-watch version is available online, just google it).

Last novel I read was Amitav Ghosh's Sea of Poppies.(India's greatest living writer). Set in Guangdong, Hong Kong, Mauritius, and across the seas of the mid 19th century..

Music: Recently Mansour Sek and the griot tradition of Senegal... wow! Jazz, traditional and modern music from countries around the world... anything that is not from "music factories" I am willing to give a try to :) I spend an evening or two every fortnight working at a little jazz club near where I live in London.
