About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Living out of my backpack for a couple years :-)

I'm Australian/Canadian and have a sincere passion for traveling. I've studied and worked as an engineer but am enjoying the hiatus from the corporate rat race!

I've been lucky enough to visit 75+ countries and am constantly amazed and humbled by how kind people can be if you give them a chance.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love meeting people from different places and cultures - it's probably the most rewarding aspect of travelling, in my opinion.

I like staying in hostels as well but, besides living somewhere, I think the best way to get a feel for a new place is to meet and interact with the locals.

Music, Movies, and Books

Some favourite books I've read on my recent, 2 year adventure:

Kitchen Confidential - Anthony Bourdain
The Third Chimpanzee - Jared Diamond
In a Sunburned Country - Bill Bryson
Scar Tissue - Anthony Kiedis
Burmese Days - George Orwell
A Brief History of Seven Killings - Marlon James
Mountains Beyond Mountains - Tracy Kidder
Walking the Amazon - Ed Stafford
Papillon - Henri Charriere
1984 - George Orwell
Don Quixote - Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra
Aesop's Fables - Aesop
Banco: The Further Adventures of Papillon - Henri Charriere

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've hitchhiked forbidden areas of Myanmar, been in a Bollywood film, sailed across the Atlantic Ocean, won second place in a strength contest in Punjab, competed in rugby tournaments in Eastern Europe and experienced the FIFA World Cup in Brazil. I've eaten eels, scorpions, bear, beaver, dog, horse, wasp nest, innards of all sorts and every fruit I can get my hands on. A Chinese sage once divined the licence plate of a bus I'd travelled on 2 days prior so I could get my hat back. I was nearly poisoned by a beautiful newt I just wanted a picture of. I caught a Metallica gig in Lima, Peru before hitchhiking out of town the next day (bus strike) and ended up in a 4-seater plane doing acrobatics over the mysterious Nazca line geoglyphs.

Let's share stories!
