About Me

Hi there, I'm from Northern Vermont. I would include more description here except the other categories seem to cover things nicely, so read on.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I joined Couchsurfing to travel during a gap year before college and to meet wonderful new people far and wide. Now, having just finished months of work on a gubernatorial campaign in Vermont, I am continuing the adventures by setting out on a solo bicycle tour.

Interests

Sports-wise, I love to ski, play Ultimate Frisbee, hike, mountain bike, rock climb, and play soccer. Beyond that, I play the guitar and sing (though neither particularly well). Also, my parents are really good cooks so I've picked up some of their talents along the way and can make some killer pancakes (and more). I also like to read and discuss politics.

Music, Movies, and Books

In English class I just read JD Salinger's Catcher in the Rye which completely enthralled me. Right now I would say that's my favorite book. I don't really watch too many movies, but in terms of music, I tend to most enjoy classic and alternative rock. I listen to everything from the Allman Brothers, Jimi Hendrix, and the Beatles to James Taylor to Alt-J, Flume, the Arctic Monkeys, and the Black Keys.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent a semester last year in DC attending a semester program called The School for Ethics and Global Leadership. While there, my classmates and I did some pretty cool stuff. Just to name a few things, we wrote speeches that we presented to Hillary Clinton's speechwriter, debated second amendment rights with a Georgetown constitutional law professor, and discussed neocolonial relations in French at the embassies of various French-African countries.

Teach, Learn, Share

Just got back from volunteering in Haiti for two months. I was teaching English at a very rural mountain town, and would love to share stories if people have an interest.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good food and good conversation. Possibly some child care. Plus being someone who always will be happy to join in on a hike or a run.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Canada, Costa Rica, Italy, Mexico, Switzerland, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

France, Haiti, United States
