About Me

Born and raised in small town Ontario (a lakeside village of 60 people!), moved to Vancouver for university, where I lived for 7 years working freelance in film and video. Recently moved to London where I work at The Economist making short documentaries.

I'm interested in pretty much everything, ask a lot of questions, and have a good sense of humour. I haven't traveled nearly as much as I would have liked, but there's time to remedy that.

I also play music—if you do too, let's jam. I have an acoustic & electric guitar and jamming is one of my favourite pasttimes. I also know of a few open mics around town if you'd like to perform while you're visiting!

Some cool experiences I've had:

- Took a sleeper train from Barcelona to Paris
- Spent a week on Parliament Hill learning about the Canadian political process
- Briefly met & shook hands with PM Trudeau a couple of times (Canada is a small big place)
- Took an overnight train down the coast to California, and back up again
- Hosted an open mic for a couple months
- Played the lead role in a few plays at my university
- Operated a camera at the 2016 & 2017 Bobsleigh & Skeleton World Cups in Whistler, BC
- Went to a summer snowboard camp in Whistler, snowboarding on a glacier in a t-shirt every day
- Work on and off at the Vancouver Aquarium, where I've been up close with sea otters, penguins and sea lions, and all of the awesome stuff they do there
& hopefully many more to come!

It's quite difficult to sum yourself up in a few sentences on the internet, isn't it? Everyone's got a list of these, and I'd love to hear yours when we meet up!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm here to meet people from around the world, simple as that. I unfortunately can't host where I live, but I'd love to show you around my city, or just share a coffee or a beer before you're on your way. I think I know Vancouver pretty well, so I can point you to some interesting places. Still, there are lots of things here I haven't seen myself, so maybe you can provide me an excuse to cross some of these off my bucket list.

As a traveler, I'd love to absorb diverse cultural experiences and add to that list of unique, notable experiences in my life. The main point, though, is to meet all kinds of people from all kinds of places and ways of life.

Interests

Film, design, photography, arts, music, astronomy, psychology, acting, travel (of course). Playing guitar, jamming. Songwriting. A good documentary film. Listening to podcasts on long commutes. Coffee. Comedy [Louis CK is my favourite]. Getting up really early. Going to the beach. Walking through the park. People.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: I don't know how to categorize my taste in books. I find it hard to get into a book, but when I do, I love it.

Movies: Many.

Music: Jazz, Blues, Instrumental, Singer-Songwriter, Acoustic, Ambient, Hip Hop, Quartet, Classical.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Took a train to San Francisco on my own for a week & couchsurfed there.

Teach, Learn, Share

Here's some stuff I can maybe teach if anyone's interested: how to use Adobe programs, basic photography skills, how to do a backflip, how to tie your shoes super fast, how to brew a mean cuppa joe (mean being good), how to make a perfect omelette, how to play guitar.

Something I'd like to learn? So many things I can't even name one. How to surf, how to scuba dive, how to run a marathon, how to use those fiery ring things you see people using at the beach, how to write a good story, how to tell a good story, how to drive a stick shift, how to make a sword from scratch - anything.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can give a pretty decent walking tour of most hot spots in the city, and bring you to some really good not-so-well-known cafes and coffee shops, 24 hour bakeries, bars, and live music. Some awesome open mics as well if you play an instrument. Really I'd love to just be someone in the city you can count on to show you around, help you get settled, hang out with, grab a coffee, meet you at the train station or airport and see you off, and hopefully stay in touch.
