Hello I'm Ash :)

I just quit my job to travel the world for 12 months (potentially longer) and I'm having the time of my life!

I live for anything arty, creative, musical, or related to food. I love learning about different cultures, places, and cuisines.

I'm very open-minded and a great listener - I find the best way to learn interesting things every day is to just listen to everybody around you. I'm a bit of a sucker for social media at the moment, mainly Instagram (@ashems or @maptoreality), because I'm obsessed with beautiful photography. I have a growing collection of cameras, new/old/broken/rollfilm/digital, most of which don't get used thanks to the trusty iPhone being the easiest to use when travelling abroad. But even so, they are close to my heart.

I'm a Creative Writing graduate and still love to write on a daily basis. I have lots of time for reading other people's writing so please send me your stories if you like to write too!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I spent summer 2015 couch surfing with my best friend Maeve and we had the best time ever. I met some wonderful hosts and I feel it is the most rewarding way to travel on a budget. I have learned that couch surfing really is a two-way deal and hope to one day be able to host travellers in my own place (when that day finally comes that I can afford a house!) as I saw the joy it brought all of my hosts when I told them what a great time I had, all because of them.
