About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To see as much of the world as possible

ABOUT ME

I am super friendly and adventurous. I grew up on the U.S. west coast (California) and lived most of my adult life on the east coast (North Carolina). Three years ago I quit my full time desk job to travel the country- exploring nearly 40 states. Along the way I went to more concerts than I can count (I even worked at Coachella and Stagecoach Music Festivals!), hiked National Parks, explored major cities from Los Angeles to NYC and in between, and worked and lived at two international hostels. My travels are taking me further away from home, spending 2016 exploring South America. I adore meeting new people, going new places and basically try to learn and explore as much as I can! :)

PHILOSOPHY

The world is a freezer, and I am just a popsicle amongst the midst.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have only had one official Couchsurfing experience and it was fantastic! I have had countless non-official couchsurfing visits with friends and acquaintances throughout the country.

Interests

Traveling and concerts! I do my best to check out live music in every new place I go to- whether it's local or bigger acts. I like slow travel because I can immerse myself in the local culture and am always down to check out new things. I also like hiking, swimming, movies, good food and wine.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: While I am always down to listen to new music and love ANY genre if it's live (I will never, ever turn down concert tickets) I am a rock n roll girl through and through. My musical tastes vary (not so far) as Bikini Kill, Kate Nash, Bratmobile, Dead Kennedys, Kaiser Chiefs, Rilo Kiley, Interpol, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Strokes, Sublime, The Wavves, Bush, The Black Keys Nirvana.

The past few years I've gotten into EDM- Bassnectar and Flosstradamus are two of the best shows I've ever been to. I once accidentally got into a VIP booth a a Calvin Harris show.

I like pop but I pretend it's only an ironic love. I recently snuck into a Taylor Swift concert :O I was the oldest person there without a child.

True to my California roots I have a deep appreciation for hip hop and rap. My love for Drake and Kanye are legendary.

Movies: Fight Club and things like Final Destination because I have no shame.

Books: Brave New World, The Shantaram, Hunger Games, Ishmael and The Age of Innocence

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the past several years, I've:
*Toured NYC over Christmas, including 5th Ave, Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, Wall St., Central Park and even checked out the back stage of an off- Broadway play
*Waitressed at a hipster restaurant in Tulsa, Oklahoma
*Been to Coachella in the California desert and even worked there in 2015
*Been an audience member on Chelsea Lately
*Picked grapes off a Sonoma County vineyard
*Met a few bands, Saves the Day, The Wavves, The Neighbourhood, Speedy Ortiz included
*Watched the seals at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco
*Camped alone in Zion National Park, Utah
*Waded in Lake Tahoe, NV
*Been to a Chalk Art festival in Sacramento
*Learned how to ice climb and ski in Colorado
*Swam down a rapid
*Hiked 8 hours from Mt. Crested Butte to Aspen
*Checked out the indie scene in Omaha
*Toured the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
*Lived and worked in three hostels for a total of almost 2 years
*Embarrassed myself by falling off a segway tour and breaking my knee
*Participated in San Diego's notorious Halloween celebration
*Sang karaoke at 3 p.m. on the top of a bar in Tijuana, Mexico
*Toured the Amazon Rainforest
*Went to the legendary Rio Carnival

I'm always looking for new adventures and sometimes it's the little things- a good meal at a family diner, a cool person I meet at a bar, a beautiful skyline that are the best experiences

Teach, Learn, Share

I am endlessly curious and am interested in learning about almost anything if the person teaching it has passion.

As I've mentioned, I know a lot about music. While I haven't done much international travel, I have seen quite a bit of the US (mostly alone) so I have learnt quite a bit about the different cultures and landscapes in the US (each state could almost be a different country in my opinion!). I'm a great cook and a vegetarian so I know how to turn a few fresh, cheap ingredients into a good meal and would love to help cook or even teach someone who wants to learn. Other interests include reading, art, education, finance and politics.

Working and living at hostels, I've gotten quit good at helping others learn English :)
